As the days get shorter and the weather turns colder, it’s not uncommon for our mental health to feel the shift too. ❄️
Seasonal Depression (also known as SAD) is more common than you might think. According to a poll by the American Psychiatric Association, 2 out of 3 adults report noticing mood and behavioral changes during the winter.
This time of year is a great reminder to intentionally lean into self-care. If you’re feeling the winter blues creeping in, here are a few simple ways to support your mind and body while we wait for warmer days:
✨ Move your body: Try a new workout class, explore a YouTube workout, or simply go for a brisk walk. Movement boosts endorphins and can help shake off that sluggish feeling.
✨ Red Light Therapy: A full spa day might not be realistic, but there are accessible at-home options that can offer some of the same restorative benefits.
✨ Connect with someone: Meet a friend at a favorite coffee shop, check out a new spot, or enjoy a cozy night in with someone who makes you feel seen and energized.
✨ Prioritize quality sleep: Create a calming nighttime routine. Step away from screens, dim the lights, and choose habits that signal to your brain and body that it’s time to rest.
And remember—self-care doesn’t have to be something you do alone. Therapy can be a powerful added layer of support, especially during the winter months. If you’re looking for a safe space to talk, reflect, and build coping tools, Miranda Counseling is here to help. 💙
You don’t have to do all the things—just start with one. What’s one self-care habit you’re focusing on this season?
