Season 2 of ADHD Connect is here, and we’re starting with a shift that matters.

This season, we’re going beyond focus and behavior… and taking a closer look at the emotional and social side of ADHD.

Because if you’ve ever seen your child:
- Hold it together all day at school… then melt down at home
- Struggle with friendships in ways that are hard to explain
- Or constantly say “I’m bored.”

There’s more going on beneath the surface.

In this first episode, I break down what’s really happening—and how understanding these patterns can change the way you respond.

This isn’t about quick fixes. It’s about seeing your child more clearly and supporting them in ways that actually help.

🎧Season 2 of ADHD Connect is coming April 22nd, and this season is different.

We're not just talking about focus, medication, or classroom accommodations.

Season 2 Focus: The Social, Emotional & Interpersonal Side of ADHD

We'll explore:
✨ Why emotional regulation is so hard with ADHD (and what actually helps)
✨ How to support kids through frustration, anxiety, and overwhelm
✨ Building social skills when your brain works differently
✨ Helping kids understand themselves and advocate for what they need
✨ The interpersonal challenges that don't show up in a diagnosis, but show up every day

This is about the human side of ADHD.

I want to hear from YOU: What's your biggest challenge right now when it comes to the social or emotional side of ADHD?

ADHD isn’t a motivation problem.

It’s a regulation problem.
It’s an initiation problem.
It’s an overwhelm problem.

When a child can’t start, follow through, or stay on task, it’s easy to assume they’re not trying.

But more often than not, they’re stuck.

Stuck in not knowing where to begin.
Stuck in too many steps.
Stuck in a brain that’s struggling to organize what comes next.

When we shift from: “Why won’t they do it?” to “What’s getting in the way?” everything changes.

Support becomes more effective. Frustration softens. And kids feel understood instead of judged.

Impulsivity is one of the most common challenges for kids with ADHD, and one of the most misunderstood.

It can look like:
• Blurting out
• Interrupting
• Struggling with personal space
• Acting before thinking

And while it can feel frustrating in the moment, these are actually opportunities to teach important skills.

In this week’s episode of ADHD Connect, I’m sharing simple, practical tools to help kids:
✔️ Pause before they act
✔️ Think through their choices
✔️ Build self-control over time

We’ll talk about strategies like “Stop, Think, Go,” teaching a social filter, and helping kids understand the real impact of their behavior.

If you’re parenting or teaching a child with ADHD, this episode will give you tools you can start using right away.

How we talk about ADHD matters more than we sometimes realize.

Children often hear two very different messages:
“I can’t do it—it’s my ADHD.”
Or, “That’s just an excuse.”

Neither message helps children grow.

In the latest episode of the ADHD Connect Podcast, I discuss a healthier, more helpful way to think about ADHD—one that acknowledges that some things are harder while still helping children build skills and confidence over time.

When we shift the conversation from blame or resignation to support and skill-building, children are far more likely to succeed.

For children with ADHD, goal-setting can feel overwhelming without structure. Big goals quickly turn into frustration.

That’s why we focus on:

✔ SMART goals (clear and specific)
✔ Breaking tasks into small, manageable steps
✔ Visual supports to track progress
✔ Celebrating effort — not just outcomes
✔ Teaching flexibility when setbacks happen

When children experience success in small ways, they begin to believe, “I can do this.”

And that belief matters.

If your child is struggling with follow-through, focus, or organization, you don’t have to navigate it alone. I offer ADHD evaluations and support for families in Lee’s Summit, along with practical parenting resources designed specifically for children with ADHD.

One of the most misunderstood ADHD behaviors is difficulty getting started.

When a child isn’t initiating a task, adults often assume:
• They’re being oppositional
• They don’t care
• They’re procrastinating on purpose

But task initiation is an executive functioning skill. For many children and teens with ADHD, the gap between “I need to do this” and actually starting feels enormous.

Instead of asking:
💭 “Why aren’t you doing it?”

Try asking:
👉🏼“What’s making it hard to get started?”

That question opens the door to support instead of conflict. Initiation struggles aren’t about character. They’re about capacity. And capacity can be supported.
