Staff Spotlight: Jennifer Wiesemann Administrative Assistant to Program Director

What is your background/training/education?
I earned an Associate of Arts degree from Metropolitan Community College – Kansas City and bring 19 years of experience working closely with people. I’m mental health first aid certified, which helps me support others through mental health challenges. I’m passionate about creating positive, caring environments and making a difference in people’s lives.

What did you do prior to working at Turning Point?
Before Turning Point, I spent 5 years as an executive assistant to the chief of police in Raytown, managing schedules, budgets, officer licensing and special projects.
Prior to that, I worked 7 years in the dental field in various administrative and
management positions.

What are your responsibilities at Turning Point?
As the administrative assistant to the program director at Turning Point, I build and manage the registration system, enroll and match participants with classes and coordinate Zoom logistics for virtual sessions. I provide one-on-one technical support to participants, handle office supplies, in-person class setup and respond to phone and email inquiries – connecting people to resources within Turning Point or externally when needed. I also apply mental health first aid as appropriate and assist the program director with special projects.

Fun facts about you:
I’m a homebody at heart but love traveling for concerts. I’ve seen one of my favorite bands more than 100 times! I enjoy traveling and spending quality time with both my dad and my fiancé and his family. I’m also a devoted Chiefs fan who also happens to love Taylor Swift. At home, I have a 14-year-old cat named Abbey, who is basically the feline version of me

Staff Spotlight: Annie Seal, Turning Point Children's Director

What is your background/training/education?
I am a Certified Child Life Specialist with a bachelor’s degree in Human
Development and Family Studies from the University of Arkansas and a master’s degree in Marriage and Family therapy. I have been working
with families facing illness since 1997.

What did you do prior to working at Turning Point?
I helped develop the first children’s programs at Turning Point in 2001 and
was a contract facilitator for many years before coming on staff in 2007.
Prior to that I worked as the Hematology/Oncology Child Life Specialist at
Children’s Mercy Hospital providing support to patients and families.

What are your responsibilities at Turning Point?
I am the Children’s Program Director, so in addition to planning our programs you will find me doing a variety of groups for families, children and parents. I also do many parent consults and work individually with children/teens helping them navigate the uncertainty that illness brings.

What is your philosophy or approach to working with kids/families?
As a Child Life Specialist, I use books, medical tools, play, art and personalized coping strategies to help kids feel safe, seen and in control during vulnerable moments. I give caregivers resources and support to navigate the path of
illness in their family. My approach is to hold space for the whole family during this time.

Fun facts about you:
I love spending time with my family, traveling, being outdoors and attending all my boys’ activities. I like listening to audio books while walking, enjoy doing yoga and drinking hot tea.
