Whenever I’m asked how I’m doing I always think of this quote. Can you name the movie?

Of course, my journey had no stolen babies or goblin cities, but it did have:

20 weeks of chemo
6 hours of surgery
25 rounds of radiation
24 rehab visits
9 months of accepting help
2 kids who made it through 2nd grade in spite of all the stress they were facing
784 hot flashes (and counting)
Countless friends, family members, and community members who held me up when I needed them

And now… 1.

1 more sleep until I get up, dress up and show up because I refuse to give up.

Starting tomorrow, Skylands Pelvic Rehab is back!

Hi everyone,
I haven’t posted any updates in quite a while, I kept hoping for better news to report. I don’t want to write a novel, so here are the updates I have:

Due to my ongoing cancer treatments, the office will remain closed until further notice. I am hoping to reopen in April/May.

If you need to reach me, please do so by email at info@skylandspelvicrehab.com. Email is the only thing I have been able to check consistently.

Lastly, and most unfortunately, I am sad to share that our sweet Joey crossed the rainbow bridge a few weeks ago. His kind and gentle presence made therapy more tolerable for so many, and he is deeply missed.

Happy Monday everyone! It’s only been a short three weeks since my last post, but I have some exciting updates to share!

Last Monday I finished my 4th chemo treatment, and that finished off the first kind. Those first four *seriously* kicked my butt and I was rarely well enough to open the office. I have a week off now and then I’ll start 12 rounds of a different chemo that should be easier to tolerate… which means hopefully more good days and good days mean open doors!! 🤞

The best news came from the scans I had last week… my tumors have shrunk by half! It’s so encouraging to know that my treatment is working. Im so grateful for my care team at Rutgers Cancer Institute for taking such phenomenal care of me!

Finally, my boys and I received the most wonderful surprise for my birthday earlier this month… a new puppy!! Say hello to Joey’s new sidekick and therapy dog in training…..Bodhi! Stay tuned for a flood of puppy pictures, I can’t keep him to myself anymore!

October is my favorite month for so many reasons… the cool air, the gorgeous leaves, hockey, the pumpkiny treats, my birthday, hoodies, hockey, Halloween… and of course Breast Cancer Awareness month! My favorite time to turn my entire world unapologetically pink. I get to stand proudly as a survivor and sprinkle my happy pink glitter everywhere!!

Well, as one of my friends said perfectly… cancer is an as***le. (Sorry for the language but there’s really no better way to say it 🤷🏻‍♀️). My cancer has returned at a more advanced stage and in a more aggressive form than it was before, and I started 20 weeks of chemotherapy last month. As much as I hoped that I would be able to keep the clinic open throughout my treatment, I’ve found it very difficult to stay healthy enough to continue to see patients.
In order to ensure that I am providing only the level of consistent care that you need and deserve, I’ll be temporarily closing my office. I’ll post updates when I can, and hope to be back before the end of the year!

Thank you all so much for your patience and understanding . If you need help finding a therapist while I am closed please do reach out… I will be checking messages periodically and am happy to help connect you with one of the other excellent therapists in our area!

I’m a day late posting this because yesterday I was so busy soaking in the joy and beauty of life. Many already know that my journey to specialization in pelvic rehabilitation and women’s health began with my breast cancer diagnosis in 2019. As of yesterday I am now 4 years cancer free and living a life that I love!
Whatever goals you have set for this new year, I wish you success, good health, and most importantly, unmitigated happiness every day!

Say hello to Joey, SPR’s official mascot and therapy dog. The first photo was taken 8 years ago, when Joey worked full time with Dr. Jenn at a community hospital in Maine. Although a little more grey around the face, he is still excited to go to work every day and takes his job very seriously! Therapy dogs like Joey can help to make the therapeutic environment more calm and healing for both kids and adults. Also, he’s super cute and snuggly!! 😍
