PSA. Please pay attention to how your nails are being processed. Over time nail products, if not applied properly, can result in allergic reactions.

Here’s the science.
Doug explains that artificial nail products only become safe when the monomers fully polymerize into a solid network. Anything that does not polymerize remains chemically active and mobile. That mobility is the problem. Uncured material does not stay on the nail plate. It transfers. Wherever your fingers touch, those microscopic uncured chemicals go with them. They move into the thin skin around the eyes, they settle around the mouth, and they end up on the face, neck and chest because the skin in those areas is delicate and absorbs more easily. Doug is clear that polymerization must be complete for products to stop migrating. When nail techs file, debulk or e-file product that was not fully cured, the dust contains chemically active uncured material as well. That dust becomes airborne and lands on the face and surrounding skin. These reactions in the photos are classic patterns dermatologists see from acrylate exposure caused by uncured gels transferring through daily touch and through dust exposure. This is exactly what happens when polymerization is incomplete. 

Here’s my opinion.
Most people never connect their eyelid swelling or mouth rashes to their nails. They think they reacted to makeup or skincare. They never imagine the product on their nails is not fully cured and is touching every part of their face all day long. They definitely never imagine the dust from their nail tech’s table landing on their skin contains uncured chemicals. When you see these patterns, it is not random. It is the body being hit again and again by the same microscopic uncured chemicals that should have been locked into a solid, safe polymer network but weren’t. This can be avoided by matching your products with a tested lamp that has been proven to cure the product.

If your experience is different, it does not change the science.
