Sleep training isn’t just about bedtime; it’s about building independence and confidence.
Like learning to ride a bike, kids can master sleeping on their own with practice and consistency. Start small: set routines, keep a fixed wake-up time, add more daytime activity, and guide them through the process calmly.

James Craig, PhD, MA, shares tips on sleep training best practices and more on our Behavior Bridge platform. The platform offers a series of free, online programs designed for caregivers to support children's mental health. With a team of experts including mental health professionals, caregivers, kids and teens, we've created a place to learn skills and gain knowledge through short videos, handouts, resources, and more.

We’re proud to celebrate Anna Sargent, RN, one of our incredible Intensive Care Nursery (ICN) nurses, as she competes in the Miss New Hampshire competition this week!

👑 Anna has been part of the pageant community for five years, using the platform to grow personally and professionally. Through the Miss New Hampshire scholarship program, part of the Miss America organization, the largest provider of scholarships for women worldwide, she earned $40,000 toward her nursing degree.

While the competition includes evening gown, talent, fitness, and on-stage questions, Anna’s favorite part is the private interview. It’s where she shares her passion for community service. Her initiative, Tiny Miracles: Helping Little Lives Thrive, was inspired by her work as a neonatal intensive care nurse. She has witnessed firsthand the strength of the tiniest fighters and is dedicated to supporting NICU babies and their families by providing comfort, hope, and resources during one of the most vulnerable seasons of life.

Join us in wishing Anna the best of luck as she takes the stage and continues to make a difference both inside and outside the hospital!

The first bath is such a special moment for families but we know there can be a lot of questions.

Zoe Frolking, MD, MSPH shares a few tips to keep your newborn clean, comfortable, and protected:
🫧 Wait until the umbilical cord falls off and any circumcision has healed before the first tub bath
🫧 2–3 baths per week is enough
🫧 Use mild, fragrance-free soap only where needed
🫧 Sponge baths are a great alternative

April is 💙

Autism is a developmental condition that affects the way a person experiences the world around them. This can make going to a new environment, like the doctor's office, very overwhelming. Bright lights, busy waiting rooms, or medical sounds can feel overstimulating, especially when the child doesn't know what's happening next.

Tools like noise-canceling headphones, stress balls, and other sensory tools can help make those spaces calmer and help keep hands busy during visits. Storybooks about visiting a doctor and social stories can be helpful for the kids to know what to expect. And for some kids, a friendly face with four paws and the softest fur can be the perfect sensory input to get through the visit. 🐾

Our facility dog provides gentle comfort and emotional support, helping children feel safe, grounded, and cared for during their visit. A variety of sensory tools are available in most pediatric clinic locations to help aid your child's visit. Together, we can make every experience more inclusive and reassuring for each child.

If your child’s behavior feels unpredictable, it could be what’s on their plate.

Geraldine Rubin, MD explains how processed foods can trigger blood sugar spikes and crashes, leading to irritability, anxiety, and tantrums.

Small shifts, like adding more protein, fruits, and vegetables while cutting back on packaged snacks, can make a meaningful difference in behavior.

I recently helped a friend get ready for their CT scan, or as I like to call it, a donut picture.

A CT scan is a special kind of X-ray that takes pictures of the inside of the body. The machine looks a bit like a big donut, and the bed moves through it while the camera takes images. It does not hurt, but it can sound noisy and feel a little strange if it is your first time. My friend was feeling nervous about trying something new, so we visited the room together. I showed them how I can practice lying still on the bed and listened as the Child Life specialist explained what the machine does.

After learning what to expect, my friend felt a lot more comfortable and ready for their turn. A little preparation, a little reassurance, and a wagging tail can make a big difference.
