Hanover Police is responding to the call for local blood donors. Will you join them?

This month marks the 6th Annual Josie’s Drive at our Blood Donor Program. Several years ago, Josie was diagnosed with leukemia and needed several blood transfusions during her treatment. Her parents are grateful to the local blood donors and want to ensure that other children and adults in the community receive the transfusions they need by holding a blood drive each year.

In March, you can help another child like Josie by donating blood or platelets at Dartmouth Health. Give our team a call at (603) 653-3775 to make an appointment or use the link below.

Thanks to a special matching gift challenge, all donations to the Honor a Caregiver campaign at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center will be DOUBLED — up to $25,000.

That means your gift in honor of a caregiver who made a difference will have twice the impact for patients and families across our region.

Share a tribute. Make a gift. Help us celebrate extraordinary caregivers — and strengthen care for our community — before the match ends on March 31st!

Congratulations to Jeff Danyew, BSN, RN, the newest Dartmouth Health honoree for a DAISY Foundation Award for Extraordinary Nurses!

Jeff cared for a critically ill patient in our Surgical Intensive Care Unit and left a lasting impact on one family during their father’s final days. Through every step of a difficult journey, he took the time to explain, reassure and simply be present.

As the family shared, “Without needing to be asked, he seemed to sense exactly what each of us needed… He carried himself in a way my dad would have admired, and in that, we found comfort.”

Jeff, thank you for the compassion and advocacy that you bring to your patients and our team. We are so grateful for the difference you make every day.

"You've got to start seeing your food as medicine." We asked our Dartmouth Health team to share some of their favorite heart-healthy foods. What would you add to their list? Healthy eating starts with everyday choices. March is National Nutrition Month, and we're here to remind you that eating healthy doesn't have to be complicated! 🥗 Small changes can make a big difference.

More Healthy Eating Tips for the whole family from :
* For snack time, keep fresh fruit and pre-chopped or no-chop veggies on hand. Your family is more likely to grab fruits and vegetables if they're readily available.
* Enjoy fish high in omega-3 fatty acids like salmon, mackerel, trout and albacore tuna are good choices.
* A small handful of nuts or seeds can be a satisfying and healthy snack. Look for unsalted or lightly salted nuts. Almonds, hazelnuts, peanuts, pecans, pistachios and walnuts are all good choices.
* Vegetables and fruits are loaded with nutrients and fiber, and typically low in calories and sodium.

Last winter, Dave Almstrom walked into the woods near his home to cut firewood. Minutes later, a falling log crushed his arm in a life-altering accident.

He knew exactly where to go: Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.

In our new video, Dave shares how expert surgeons saved his arm — and how a dedicated team of occupational therapists helped him regain full use of his hand in just four months.

Dave chose to honor his caregivers through the Honor a Caregiver campaign. You can, too.

🎉 Our vascular surgery fellowship program, part of the Heart and Vascular Center (HVC), is now ranked the number one of its kind in the United States on Doximity, the largest professional network for healthcare providers nationwide. This ranking is based on the program’s Hirsch index score, which measures the productivity and citation impact of its alumni.

“This ranking is especially meaningful because it reflects the breadth of clinical research conducted by our trainees, and the esteem of our colleagues in other programs,” said HVC director Richard J. Powell, MD. “I’m very proud of the outstanding fellowship program we have built to equip aspiring vascular surgeons with the skill, knowledge and expertise to provide their patients the best care possible.”

Congratulations!

Members of our antimicrobial stewardship team keep a close watch on antibiotic utilization across the hospital, helping care teams prescribe the right antibiotics, to the right patients, at the right dose, and for the right amount of time.

Antibiotic effectiveness isn’t just about which drug you use—it’s about where, when, how much, and how fast the dose is delivered.

For patients, such insights can spell the difference between a treatable infection and a tragic one.

For doctors, it can mean making the best of the medicines they have.

When you need a get-well gift, a snack, or just a change of scenery, The Gift Shop at DHMC is here to serve. The volunteers on staff aim to create a welcoming space for patients, family members, and visitors to decompress and take a break from the hospital floor.

Window-shoppers are welcome, but if you do make a purchase, 100% of the profits go toward grants for nursing education and improving the patient experience. Store manager Adam Shapiro recommends starting with some of the locally-made goods sourced from here in New Hampshire and Vermont.

What's your favorite thing to look for at The Gift Shop? Let us know in the comments.
