Congratulations to our very own James Mills who works in the LENOWISCO Health District as a Peer Support Specialist with our Comprehensive Harm Reduction Program on his nomination for SAARA of Virginia’s Peer of the Year Award! Voting for peer of the year is open now, vote at: www.saara.org/2026luncheon

Each year, SAARA of Virginia’s Peer of the Year Award recognizes a peer recovery specialist who has gone above and beyond to support individuals, families, and communities on the path to recovery. Peers play a vital role in offering hope, connection, and lived experience to those navigating recovery, and we are proud to celebrate their impact across the Commonwealth.

This year, we received an incredible number of heartfelt nominations from across Virginia. After careful consideration, we have narrowed the field to 10 outstanding finalists who represent the compassion, dedication, and leadership that define peer recovery support.

We also want to recognize all peer recovery specialists across Virginia who show up every day to walk alongside others in recovery. Your work strengthens communities and changes lives.

Voting for the 2026 Peer of the Year Award is open March 17 through April 17.
Please take a moment to review the nominees below and vote for the peer you believe best embodies the spirit of recovery and peer support.

World HPV Awareness Day is a day to talk about human papillomavirus (HPV).

With the tools we have, preventing HPV-related cancer is possible, with awareness as the first step.

✅ Most people who have HPV have no symptoms and are unaware they have it.
✅ Women should start getting screened for cervical cancer at age 21.
✅The HPV vaccine protects against 6 cancers. It works best when given well before exposure to the virus.
