Cedars Mental Wellness Services

Cedars Mental Wellness Services Licensed provider of mental health counseling services to children and adults in Lebanon, TN. Compa Mental health is a cornerstone of whole-person wellness.

Cedars Mental Wellness Services was founded by Leah Shanks, LPC-MHSP, in 2017 to serve the community with personalized, compassionate, evidence-based mental health counseling services to adults and children. My areas of focus include: trauma related disorders, eating disorders, depression, anxiety, and the relationship between physical health and mental health. Now, as medical science understands

better the direct influence of mental health on physical health, I seek to deliver care that is in keeping with this evidence. I received my B.A in Psychology from my beloved Ole Miss where I also ran cross country and track. I then went on to receive a Masters in Sports Psychology and a Masters in Mental Health Counseling from The University of Tennessee.I have been a Licensed Professional Counselor since 2009. I spent five years working school-based and outpatient therapy in Waynesville, NC before moving to Lebanon, TN in 2012. I worked school-based therapy for four years before making the move to Private Practice.

I am excited to announce that I have just partnered with [](https://www.instagram.com/joinmentaya/) to help clients use their out-of-network benefits for potential reimbursement on therapy!

**What are out-of-network benefits?** Here's a breakdown:

✨ If your insurance plan offers out-of-network benefits, it means they will cover a portion of the cost when you see a therapist who doesn't have a direct contract with your insurance company.

✨ Unlike in-network providers, who bill your insurance company directly, with out-of-network therapists, you typically pay for the session upfront and then submit a claim to your insurance for reimbursement.

✨ Insurance companies often reimburse a percentage of the therapist's fee, usually after you meet an out-of-network deductible. For example, after you meet a $1,000 deductible, your insurance may reimburse 50-80% of the session cost.

✨ Out-of-network benefits give you the flexibility to choose a therapist based on your needs and preferences, not just those in-network.

Excited to announce that I now offer a new therapy technique, Brainspotting. I have already used it a few times with clients and have seen amazing results! I will soon be trained in the use of brain spotting for sports trauma and sports performance. Stay tuned for more information on that! If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to me at 865-591-5949.

Brainspotting therapy is a type of therapy that uses spots in a person’s visual field to help them process trauma.

Kids upset? Acting out (or in)? Let's look for the whole story... sometimes it takes some sly detective work to figure out what's going on. Beneath anger, there is always something more.

Please share this group with anyone that can use it right now

THIS!!!! This is so important. Childhood trauma leads to all sorts of physical and mental health issues. I use the ACE score with my clients and believe all PCP's should give it to their patients.

Childhood trauma isn’t something you just get over as you grow up. Pediatrician Nadine Burke Harris explains that the repeated stress of abuse, neglect and parents struggling with mental health or substance abuse issues has real, tangible effects on the development of the brain. This unfolds acros...

The Enneagram has become my new favorite tool to use in counseling. If you do not know what it is, but want to understand yourself better and why you are the way you are as well as gain tools to help you become a better you then I highly recommend taking the test and finding out about your number. For the record I'm a hardcore 9 married to a hardcore 3 and all of my kids are different numbers. It has really explained a lot about each of us and helps me understand each of them as well as myself much better.

Knowing your Enneagram type empowers you to maximize your inherent strengths, comprehend your weaknesses, and understand your relationship with other types.

With summer here and kids at home these are some great tips. I especially like #5.

While adulthood is filled with serious responsibilities, childhood isn't exactly stress-free. Kids take tests, learn new information, change schools, change neighborhoods, get sick, get braces, encounter bullies, make new friends and occasionally get hurt by those friends. What helps kids in navigat...

If you have kids or work with kids this is a great podcast! I wish mindfulness was used more in schools and would love to help a child you might know (or yourself) learn to use mindfulness in his/her life to help calm the chaos.

In This Episode: Robert Cox specializes in the treatment of Trauma and Autism Spectrum Disorder and uses mindfulness extensively in his practice. He lectures nationally on autism and works as a consultant for children’s psychiatric hospitals in the development of Autism treatment programs. Recentl...
