We were honored to welcome Alice Spayd, beloved local expert and teacher of the PA Dutch language, along with retired history professor James Dibert, who educated a packed room about the rich history of the Pennsylvania Dutch culture and language. Guests enjoyed learning the origins of classic PA Dutch words like rutsching and schpritze, and hearing about influential historical figures of PA Dutch descent including President Dwight D. Eisenhower.

A special highlight of the day was a beautiful performance by PA Dutch singing group Die Schwadore Schalle' (The Swatara Sounds), who filled the room with the spirit of the season by singing traditional Christmas songs in PA Dutch.

Our Dining Services team treated everyone to delicious samples of traditional PA Dutch favorites, including Red Beet Eggs, Saltine Cracker Pudding, Corn Pie, and Shoofly Cake.

The event also featured wonderful displays of PA Dutch books, antiques, and cultural items, giving everyone a deeper connection to this unique heritage.

A heartfelt thank you to Alice, Professor Dibert, Die Schwadore Schalle', our team and everyone who attended to make this such a meaningful celebration of Pennsylvania Dutch history and holiday tradition!

What a fantastic time we had celebrating Oktoberfest with the Happy Dutchman German Band! The Club was filled with toe-tapping polkas, and lively singing. We even learned a few German words along the way-Prost!

As we enter the season of gratitude and prepare for Thanksgiving, we reflect on the importance of our local community partnerships. These deeply-rooted connections are an extension of our mission “to be the people, places and programs that nurture the spirit of life,” both inside our walls and beyond.

With 28 locations in five states, each Juniper community has woven its own unique tapestry of ties to the local community. These partnerships are vast and varied. Elementary schools, universities, dance studios, breweries, bakeries, theatres, outdoor clubs, churches, animal shelters, libraries, athletic teams, artists, non-profits, and so many more come into our communities to create experiences that meld passion with purpose.

The entire Juniper community had a wildly good time at our Mystery Jungle Trick-or-Treat! This event was a huge hit, bringing together residents and children from all over the community for an evening of fun. Residents lined up outside their rooms with oodles of candy to hand out. The kids enjoyed a variety of jungle-themed activities, including a thrilling Treasure Hunt, solving Hieroglyphics Puzzles, and getting their faces painted. Adding to the excitement was a special visit from a Bearded Dragon! Of course, we also had lots of yummy food to keep everyone energized. You can always count on a good time at Juniper Village!
