Cold Weather & Diabetes: Stay Safe This Winter!

The forecast is for bitter cold! Freezing temperatures can be especially risky for those with diabetes and other endocrine conditions. Protect your health with these essential winter tips:
- Bundle Up – Poor circulation can make you more prone to frostbite. Wear warm layers, gloves, and thick socks to protect your extremities.
- Monitor Blood Sugar – Cold weather and stress can affect glucose levels. Check your blood sugar more frequently.
- Stay Active Indoors – Icy conditions can make outdoor exercise dangerous. Find safe indoor activities to keep moving.
- Keep Medications Safe – Insulin and other medications can lose effectiveness if exposed to extreme cold. Store them properly and avoid freezing.
- Eat Smart – Comfort foods can be tempting, but maintain a balanced diet to keep blood sugar stable.
- Check on Others – Those with diabetes are at higher risk for complications in extreme weather. Offer support to friends and family.

Stay warm and stay well!
