This week, we are proud to shine the spotlight on Mrs. Carol B., a woman with a beautiful life story rooted in family, hard work, love, and creativity.
Mrs. Carol was born in Camden, New Jersey. Her family history is especially remarkable — her grandparents came to the United States in 1912 from Thiers, France. After arriving, they purchased 33 acres in Greenfield, New Jersey, where her grandfather worked the land and built a very successful farm. They sold fresh vegetables such as carrots, beets, asparagus, and potatoes at a small farm stand he built himself. The farm also included two apple orchards, a vineyard with white grapes, and animals including pigs, horses, cows, and chickens. At that time, they were the only people in that area to have irrigation, which made their farm even more unique.
Carol was raised in West Collingswood Heights, New Jersey, before moving to Florida in 1948 with her family. It was there that she met her very best friend, Julia, in the 6th grade. Julia, who most people knew as Judy, would later stand beside Carol as her maid of honor on her wedding day.
As a young woman, Carol loved reading, spending time with friends, and working hard. She worked as a stock girl at a local department store, earning 50 cents an hour. After graduating from high school, she went on to work for Southern Bell as a long-distance operator.
Carol’s love story is one to remember. One day, a friend convinced her to go on a blind date with a young man who had just gotten out of the Navy. That young man was Lloyd. Just six weeks later, they were engaged. Within a few months, they were expecting their first baby. Together, Carol and Lloyd not only raised their own children, but also opened their hearts and home to foster many others.
Carol also had a creative side that blossomed into a small business with her good friend — her friend handled the catering, while Carol created the flower arrangements. Even to this day, Carol still loves to craft and make beautiful arrangements.
Mrs. Carol’s smile can light up any room, and she absolutely loves to dance. She is an amazing woman who has lived a life full of love, friendship, creativity, and family, and we are so grateful to have her here as part of the Best Care family.
