Armstrong Athletic Bodywork is dedicated to providing pain management and treatment of chronic athletic injuries. Here in the Berkshires, we live in a unique centralized location, with the topography and temperatures that foster a multitude of opportunities for seasonal sports and recreation. With all of this year-round exercise, training, and competition, power is continually demanded from our muscles in order to perform efficiently and optimally. And as we all know, with great power comes great responsibility... to our bodies and well-being!
Myofascia, also known as fascia, is a strong, flexible web of dense collagen fibers that surround and interconnect all of the muscles, bones, vessels, and nerves from the top of your head to the bottoms of your feet. Tightness or binding in the myofascia can cause pain to develop. This tightness can be caused by exercise, habitual repetitive motions, and traumas such as injuries from falls, whiplash, or surgery. Stress, prolonged sitting or standing, and poor posture can also affect the myofascia.
Having tight myofascia can contribute toward experiencing headaches, muscle spasms, back & neck pain, sciatica, recurring injuries, decreased flexibility, limited mobility, numbness, and even difficulty breathing. Armstrong Athletic Bodywork offers phenomenal restorative therapy for all athletes. During treatment, a customized combination of moderate to deep pressure techniques are applied to the muscle groups to smooth the fascia, while stretching is used to loosen joints and promote flexibility. This bodywork also encourages the chest and diaphragm to open up, allowing better breathing for athletic performance and daily life. Armstrong Athletic Bodywork is a comprehensive and progressive therapy that benefits the entire active body while improving the breath and relaxing the mind.
