Balance and Grow Counseling Center

Balance and Grow Counseling Center I am a licensed professional counselor (LPC) and a certified school counselor in the state of Pennsylvania. I have been a therapist for more than 15 years.

I can honestly say that I love my job and I love the opportunity to meet clients where they are. My theoretical orientation of therapy is solution focused therapy and cognitive behavior therapy. I spend time, looking at your thoughts because we know that negative thoughts can lead to anxiety and depression. Examining those thoughts, developing coping skills can help you be successful. I believe that you have the tools to solve your own problems, with my help. We can start to develop themes around your concerns in order to develop individualized coping skills for you. I work with children, adolescents and adults and tackle a multitude of concerns. From ADHD, anxiety, work/life balance, stress, trauma and many other issues that you bring to me. Personally, I am married and a mom. I completed my Ph.D in 2024 in Counselor Education. I am an adjunct professor at IUP in the psychology department. I love to read, to walk and all things Harry Potter. I look forward to meeting you and supporting you on this journey. I have a certified therapy dog, Maisy, who is a mini golden doodle. She offers love, snuggles and cuteness while you are in session. Here is the link to my site which can be used to book a session and to learn more:

🌈 Kids feel stress too — they just show it differently.

We sometimes forget that children experience stress just like adults do — they just don’t always have the words to explain it.

Stress in kids might look like:
😔 More meltdowns or irritability
😴 Trouble sleeping or tummy aches
😶 Withdrawing or acting “clingy”
🎒 Suddenly not wanting to go to school

🧠 What helps:
💬 Let them talk (or draw!) about what’s bothering them.
🤗 Offer reassurance and routines — predictability helps kids feel safe.
🌿 Model calm: when you breathe, slow down, and stay steady, they learn to do the same.
❤️ Remind them that their feelings matter, and that they don’t have to “be strong” all the time.

Big emotions in small bodies can be overwhelming — but with support and understanding, kids can learn healthy ways to cope.

😩 Teens and stress — it’s a real thing.

Between school, social media, friends, family, and trying to figure out who they are… teens are under a lot of pressure. And it doesn’t always look like “stress.” Sometimes it looks like:
💬 “I don’t care.”
😡 Snapping over little things.
📱 Scrolling nonstop.
😴 Sleeping way more (or way less).

If you notice those signs, pause before you lecture — and just check in. A simple, “You seem really tired lately. Want to talk?” can go a long way.

And remember — therapy isn’t just for when things are falling apart. It can help teens build tools to handle stress before it becomes too heavy. 💛

Have you noticed that the days are much shorter and darker this time of year? These changes in weather and light can affect our mood and energy levels. Over 10 million Americans are estimated to have seasonal affective disorder (SAD) or seasonal depression. The cold days, long nights, and isolation of winter can make it seem like seasonal depression is inescapable.

Here are some tips:
✅ set a daily schedule for yourself can help. Try to go to bed and wake up around the same time every day 😴. Also, plan on having meals on a consistent schedule as well.

✅ Keep your curtains and blinds open inside your house to let what little natural light 🩵 is available in. Be sure to spend time near windows during the day ☀️. If possible, try to avoid spending several hours in a dark, windowless space.

✅ Don’t skip out on socializing

Depression thrives in isolation. It might make you not want to see anybody or even leave your house, but don’t believe the lies depression tells you. Your friends 👯 and family 🏠 will want to see you so don’t hesitate to reach out to them. Socializing helps boost feelings of happiness and connectivity which is vital to a healthy mental state. Don’t skip out on too many invitations to social events this winter; you’ll feel better for it 💪

✅ Keep Moving

Much like socializing, depression will make you not want to do any physical activities 🚶‍♀️. Yet, exercise is one of the best ways to stay mentally healthy ❤️‍🩹Exercise boosts certain neurotransmitters that are responsible for helping you feel energized and happy. It might be quite tempting to stay on the couch all day as winter rages on, but you’ll feel better if you are moving 🏃🏃‍♀️

✅ Reach out for help

Seasonal depression or seasonal affective disorder is far more than just “the winter blues🩵.” Depression isn’t something that will just go away on its own. If you are concerned that you or someone you care about might be experiencing seasonal depression, it is important to seek help🥶❄️
