Stormwater Awareness:

VA CWM GEMS Program has been working to provide increased public educational messages concerning stormwater pollution. Here are some spring maintenance tips for you to use to help keep our stormwater clean as you maintain your properties and lawns.

Rain that runs off from lawns can be a major contributor to pollution in stormwater. Simple tasks that we perform to take care of our properties, such as raking up leaves, mowing, applying fertilizers, watering, and cleaning, can impact our streams, wetlands, or rivers, where they can harm human health, wildlife, and the environment.

On Friday, April 24, 2026, from 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM, Police Services, in conjunction with VA CWM Pharmacy, will host the biannual unused medication and prescription take-back day in accordance with the DUMP Opioids Act.

Veterans and community members wishing to dispose of their unused medications can drive up to one of our facilities located in Leeds or Worcester (Belmont Street) to obtain a DEA-approved medication disposal mail-back envelope from one of our VA CWM Police officers.

Unused or expired prescription medications are a public safety issue. Proper disposal of unneeded drugs saves lives and protects the environment and our overall community.

Civilians who cannot participate in VA Take Back Days can use the DEA’s Public Disposal Locations Search Tool to find year-round collection sites. https://apps.deadiversion.usdoj.gov/pubdispsearch/spring/main;jsessionid=IIUGGVJe6T16tUdusm3mvLFv3U4GWoMW8x6i1Rab.web1?execution=e1s1
