Today is Concussion Awareness Day!

A reminder that concussions (mild traumatic brain injuries) are never to be taken lightly.

At HML Functional Care, we believe in seeing the whole person, not just the injury. Here’s what we want you to know:

🧠No two concussions are the same. Each injury is unique — so are the symptoms. From dizziness to changes in mood or personality, multiple presentations are possible.

🧠Make sure you get checked by someone who knows what to look for. Guidelines evolve. There’s more known now about how to properly assess and care for concussions than ever in the past decade.

🧠It takes a village. Healing often involves more than one specialist. Functional neurologists, optometrists, physical therapists, counselors, nutritionists, and others all have a role.

🧠Inflammation matters. Your brain’s immune system responds after trauma. While it’s essential for early healing, if it stays “on” for too long, it can lead to long‑term issues like persistent concussion symptoms (PCS). Diet, lifestyle, and targeted support (anti‑inflammatories) are a part of how we help at HML.

This is what it’s all about.

The other week, we were honored to treat this lovely 15 year old girl in office for an intensive. Previously diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, Autism, and ADHD, her gait is affected on the left side of her body, and she was generally unhappy, did not run, and operated around the level of 8 years old.

After one week of an intensive, we have continued to see amazing improvements — no more medications, making to-do lists, getting ready for school in the mornings, putting things away in their correct places, combing her hair, improvement in gait, improvement in timing and rhythm of at-home exercises, running, and HAPPINESS! 😆😁

We absolutely love what we do!
