We’re halfway through the year, and the campaign for a new EMS headquarters at John Knox Village continues! Generous donors have brought the John Knox Village Foundation closer to its fundraising goal.

Our first responders answer multiple calls daily—often in under three minutes. It’s time they had a space that supports the vital work they do for our community.

Thanks to the creativity and collaboration of members of the John Knox Village community, a beautiful new 12’ x 16’ gazebo now sits at the heart of the Village Garden!

After the loss of a tree left the area without shade, Garden Board President Ron Brohammer and his team proposed a thoughtful solution: a gazebo to give gardeners a cool, comfortable place to rest while tending their plots. With support from Operations Director Eric Scott and Materials Manager Jennifer Schmeidler, a volunteer group from software provider Netsmart began the installation, and the Village grounds crew completed the project. Funding came from Garden Fest and Farmer’s Market vegetable sales.

Meet Sam and Sherrie Claggett, who made fitness a priority from day one at John Knox Village. After taking classes like Functional Fitness, Balance, and Mat Yoga, they’ve seen remarkable progress—both physically and mentally.

Sam, recovering from brain surgery, says Balance classes helped him regain steadiness and confidence. Sherrie is now doing 25-pound kettlebell swings and modified burpees—something she never thought possible.

Their story highlights what makes the Village special: a supportive community, expert instructors, and wellness programs that truly make a difference.

The 2025 Gala benefiting The Pavilion at John Knox Village—presented in partnership with the Lee’s Summit Symphony Orchestra—is your chance to make a difference in our community while enjoying a night of music, food, and fun.
