The Morning “Log Roll” Technique 🛏️

How you get out of bed matters just as much as how you sleep. Sitting straight up from your back can strain your lower spine and cause unnecessary discomfort.

Try this safer approach instead:
• Bend your knees while lying on your back
• Roll onto your side, keeping your shoulders and hips moving together
• Use your arms to push yourself up as your legs swing off the bed

This simple technique helps keep your spine aligned and reduces stress on your back—setting you up for a better start to your day 🙌

Why Stomach Sleeping Can Be Hard on Your Body

This position is generally discouraged. Sleeping on your stomach forces your neck to rotate for extended periods, which can contribute to morning neck pain and headaches. It also flattens the natural curve of your lower back, increasing pressure on the spine and discs. If this is the only way you can fall asleep, use a very thin pillow—or none at all—to minimize strain on your neck.

Side Sleeping for Spinal Alignment

Side sleeping is the most common sleep position. To maintain proper spinal alignment, place a firm pillow between your knees. This helps prevent the top leg from pulling the pelvis forward and keeps the hips, pelvis, and spine aligned throughout the night. For additional support, choose a pillow that keeps your head and neck in a neutral position with your spine.

Back Sleeping for Spinal Support

Sleeping on your back is often considered one of the most supportive positions for maintaining proper spinal alignment. To improve this posture, try placing a small pillow under your knees. This simple adjustment helps preserve the natural curve of the lower back and reduces pressure on the lumbar discs, promoting greater comfort and support throughout the night.

🌙 Sleep Smarter for a Healthier Spine

Your body naturally moves throughout the night, and that movement actually helps prevent stiffness and pressure buildup. Most people, however, have a preferred position when they first fall asleep—and that position should support the natural curves of your spine.

Keeping your spine in a neutral position allows your muscles, ligaments, and discs to relax and experience less strain while you sleep. When your spine is properly supported, you’re more likely to wake up feeling rested and comfortable.
