by Leesburg resident, Bobbi Elliott. Bobbi's Story:
I was born on a dairy farm in Upstate New York, and have incorporated the important values that I learned during my childhood into my life, raising three children, developing friendships and caring for others. I graduated from SUNY of Cobleskill, but my passion is alternative medicine. I have been studying herbs and nutrition for the last 25 years. I have studied under Christopher Hobbs, Michael Murray ND, Deepak Chopra, Andrew Weil, MD and Ric Scalzo, and have attended many classes at Bastyr University over the years; all well-known professional and institutions from my industry. I have had articles printed in Vitamin Retailer, a trade magazine for the health food industry, I have sat on local health panels, and Healthy By Nature has repeatedly been voted best health food store in Leesburg and Loudoun County. My Great Aunt Carrie was the first woman doctor in my area of Upstate New York and I like to think she was nothing more than an herbalist with a license to use a scalpel, so I’m following in her footsteps minus the scalpel. I opened Healthy By Nature in 1996 and have been caring for the Leesburg and Loudoun County residents ever since. I share my knowledge freely in the hopes that those who want to take responsibility for their health will be provided with actuate information. This is my life's work and I wouldn't want it any other way. Although we provide accurate and applicable information, our statements are not evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. After almost 30 joyous years serving Leesburg and the surrounding communities, it's with a hopeful heart that I enjoy my retirement as much as I enjoyed working. The success of Healthy By Nature is due to the support of our customers, friends and family.

Thank you all so much. I'm happy that the doors will remain open under new ownership. Beginning Saturday, 1-28-23, Steve and Julie, the new owners, will be ready to help you with your healthy by nature needs.

🐝Wildflower honey is exactly what it sounds like; it's derived from a variety of local wildflowers and plants that bloom during the spring and summer months.

Quail and Hound Farms, located in Middleburg, specializes in a number of local, organic, and NON-GMO products. We are a huge supporter of theirs, and we love their honey!

On the Quail and Hound farm and in the local area, wildflower honey can range from a light golden honey to a rich amber-colored honey.

Grocery store honey is usually not purchased from local farms. Local means the pollen used by the bees to make honey is from local trees and flowers.

Since ancient times, local honey has been utilized for its healing properties, including helping with seasonal allergies and reducing the lifespan of colds. As well, honey is a natural antiseptic and can even help tame the stomach flu; it even has antidepressant, anticonvulsant and anti-anxiety benefits and in some studies, honey has been shown to help prevent memory disorders. It can be used topically for wound care and to promote wound healing, particularly in burns.

"Turmeric" and "curcumin" are two words that are often used interchangeably. Although related to one another, it’s important to make a distinction between the two.

▪️On one hand, Turmeric is a plant that is harvested, cleaned, dried, and then powdered to be used as a spice and as a medicine. The main source of turmeric’s benefits is found within its inner active compounds known as curcumin or curcuminoids.

▪️Curcumin is the widely studied compound extracted from turmeric to be specifically used as an herbal supplement. A typical turmeric root consists of only 2-5% curcumin. Taking an unstandardized, powdered turmeric product means that you would need a very large amount to get a beneficial serving of curcumin.
