It's a beautiful day in Upperville! Privileged to be the Equine Veterinarian for this prestigious horse show.

The grounds are immaculate. The food is great. And the staff and management are running a superb show. It's perfect!

Total Equine Veterinary Associates is both proud to sponsor and proud to serve.

As usual, knock wood, no need for my services. So it's paperwork time in my mobile office, with the dogs, catching up on veterinary journals and some thought provoking learning/reading.

As the founder of Total Equine Veterinary Associates, Dr. Jay Joyce brings decades of experience, leadership, and innovation to the practice. A 2003 graduate of the University of California Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, he launched TEVA in 2010 with a clear mission: provide modern, mobile, high-level equine care with a personal touch.

Thank you to the hunt pony club for allowing Dr. Sam Eder and I to speak at your annual camp. Your curiosity and desire to learn are impressive.

We had a tour of the vet truck and talks about bones, dentistry, vaccines, fitness, exercise - and you were all ears. Even the part about being a veterinarian and the diversity of this profession was interesting. Vets as astronauts! Vets in food safety! Vets in zoos! Vets do it all!

We look forward to seeing you again next year.

I chose a career in veterinary medicine because of a lifelong passion to help animals. It’s a part of the work I cherish the most—and it resonates deeply when I encounter horses (and other animals) in need of urgent care.

Recently, I had the privilege of working alongside the incredible team at Loudoun County Animal Services (LCAS) and Loudoun County Sheriff's Officers to help a group of local horses in urgent need of care. I examined nearly all of them on-site, documented my findings, and collaborated with LCAS to develop a rehabilitation plan.

A few days later, I testified in court as an expert witness, drawing on my 22 years of equine veterinary practice, my work as a State Veterinarian for the WV Racing Commission, and my support in assisting my wife manage a 52-horse equestrian facility. These experiences helped guide the Court's decision, provide the next steps for these horses, and support the creation of a veterinarian-directed recovery plan. These horses are well on their way to a better life.

What always inspires me most in situations like this is seeing our community come together—neighbors, officers, veterinarians, and volunteers—united in the shared goal of protecting and caring for vulnerable animals. It’s a reminder that compassion and teamwork can make a real difference.

I’m deeply grateful to work with LCAS and to witness firsthand their dedication, professionalism, and heart. Together, we give a voice to those who cannot speak for themselves.
