"My pain isn't valid like someone else's." "I don't deserve help because my pain isn't enough."

All too often I hear these words muttered from people I work with. Hell, I've muttered those very words. Unfortunately that is the painful power of shame, a by-product of trauma.

What if we lived in a world that didn't compare the context, the story line, rather cared more about the inner landscape experience? Acknowledged what happens inside and stopped making us hustle for enoughism?

Let's take a step into creating this reality. Instead of validating the context, the story, lets acknowledge and validate the feeling, the sensation the inner experience.

Dialectical: concerned with or acting through opposing forces (Oxford Languages)

Being able to balance that opposites can indeed exists helps us have flexibility in our emotional dilemmas. Give yourself the permission to see the many sides of each experience and hold space in the middle. Extremes such as: either, or, always, never bind us. Allow yourself to lean in to embrace the AND because and allows space for multiples to exist.

When you are activated in any way, take a moment to thank that part of you for sharing a cue about a need you have. Healing is just around the corner if you will listen.

Too often we judge our triggers and experiences. What if you didn't judge them and took a minute to listen to the information it is trying to tell you about what you innately need.

As Rumi says, "These pains you feel are messengers. Listen to them."

Today I taught my clienta about opposite action to emotion. About how our fear often tells us to run away or fight to survive, our sadness often tells us to withdraw and retreat to safety, etc. Letting our emotions lead us down a path can be very harmful. Ive spent a lifetime where emotion has told me to stay quiet, keep yourself small, don't be seen or you'll be hurt. Guess what, I still got hurt and it wasn't worth it. So, I'm learning to thank my emotion for showing up and doing the opposite action of staying small, hiding and being quiet. It isn't easy and the outcomes have been much more fulfilling.
What if you learned to thank your emotions for showing up and telling you something...and you didn't have to react to them, you could choose and opposite action that was aligned with your true being? What emotion do you need to thank and set the boundary of doing the opposite action?

With all the processing, deep exploration going on for many of us right now, Black Lives Matter, Police Britality, Police Support, Racism, Physical Health, Employment fluctuations, the list can continue on. Give yourself permission to to allow all the growth to integrate and settle. This does not mean that you are forgetting about these issues and avoiding. It means you are intentionally making that space available for change to occur.
