The holidays can be a challenging time for clients navigating eating disorder recovery and a demanding season for the clinicians supporting them.
Here are three reminders as you hold space this week:
1. Increased symptoms are expected not a setback.
More food exposure, disrupted routines, and intensified family dynamics can heighten anxiety and urges. This isn’t failure. It’s the nervous system doing what it knows to survive.
2. Clients need safety more than solutions.
Your attunement, calm presence, and compassion are often more regulating than any perfectly crafted intervention. You don’t have to fix the holiday just be a steady anchor through it.
3. Prepare before, process after.
Supporting clients in anticipating triggers and creating a compassionate plan helps them feel grounded going in. Processing what arose afterward builds insight, resilience, and trust.
As always, we’re here to support you in supporting them.
You’re doing meaningful work — especially right now. 💛

Pillar 4: All Parts Deserve Compassion
Even the parts that seem messy, stubborn, or destructive began as protectors.
In recovery, we don’t silence them we listen with compassion.

Every part of your client has a story and a reason for existing.
When we meet those parts with care instead of criticism, integration and healing can begin.

Small moments of compassion lead to big shifts in healing. Remember — being present is the most powerful intervention you have.

This Thanksgiving, may your focus be less on the food and more on the hearts around the table.

Recovery reminds us that joy isn’t measured in calories or control it’s found in connection, laughter, and the simple moments that remind us we belong.

Whether you’re in the early stages of healing or years into recovery, give yourself permission to just be present.
You don’t have to earn your seat at the table, you already belong there.

From all of us at The Eating Disorder Consultants, we’re grateful for the courage, compassion, and community that make this work so meaningful.
Happy Thanksgiving.

Pillar 3: The Brain and Body Must Be Nourished
Malnutrition and starvation don’t just affect the body they change the brain.
Before insight, trauma work, or emotional regulation can take root, the nervous system needs stability and fuel.

That’s why nutritional rehabilitation isn’t optional it’s foundational.
When the body is nourished, the mind can think clearly, the heart can feel safely, and true healing can begin.

At The Eating Disorder Consultants, we believe in teaching through connection.

Treating eating disorders isn’t about memorizing protocols — it’s about understanding people.
Our trainings are built to help therapists feel confident, compassionate, and connected — to their clients, to the work, and to themselves.

We don’t just teach information; we model attunement, curiosity, and compassion. Because the same qualities that heal clients are the ones that shape great clinicians. 💛

If you’re ready to learn how to treat eating disorders with clarity, confidence, and heart — start with our free 45-minute intro course at https://www.theeatingdisorderconsultants.com/courses-landing-page.

Pillar 2: Authenticity Is a Recovery Goal
Recovery isn’t about becoming someone new — it’s about remembering who you are beneath the eating disorder.
The behaviors, rules, and masks once helped you survive, but they’re not you.

Through compassionate self-understanding, the masks begin to fall.
What’s left is truth, freedom, and the courage to live as your whole self, not who the disorder wanted you to be.

It helped them survive. We honor the role it played — and acknowledge the pain it caused. Healing means holding space for both.
