Civica Rx was created for the express purpose of preventing and mitigating drug shortages. As this chart from the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists shows, shortages are a chronic problem. Since our founding in 2018, Civica has been able to reliably supply our hospital members with the vital generic injectable medications that their patients need, despite these shortages.

Today, Governor of Virginia Glenn Youngkin joined Civica officials at our Petersburg manufacturing facility to announce a $3 million grant from the Commonwealth of Virginia to accelerate Civica’s efforts to develop and produce affordable insulin for Americans living with diabetes. We were joined by State Senator Lashrecse Aird , Delegate Kim Taylor, Virginia Sec. of Commerce and Trade Secretary Juan Pablo Segura , and Lynn Starr, Chief Global Advocacy Officer of Breakthrough T1D, a leading diabetes advocacy organization.

“We are grateful for Virginia Commonwealth’s support,” said Ned McCoy, Civica’s President and CEO. “This funding will help us move closer toward our goal of ensuring that no one has to choose between insulin and other basic needs.”
