Toys can be more than toys.
They can be powerful & precious bonding tools.

Yā€™all remember those vintage Fisher Price toys we found in a basement a while ago?
They have officially made their way to our treasure booths. And they look AWESOME all set up together!

We hadnā€™t even put all of the toys out when a lady strolled up with her adorable toddler grandson in her cart.

When she saw the display of vintage toys, she gasped and immediately started speaking memories out loud, like she was in a trance of nostalgia.

I asked her if she would mind if I filmed while she looked and told her to just talk naturally. I was so tickled by how happy she was to see the toys.

Thereā€™s no doubt that this grandma will be playing ā€œlittle peopleā€ with her grandson when she gets home. And that makes my heart smile.

I love our job so much! We get to clean up spaces and rehome special things along the way!

Throwback to that one time I had to climb OVER a pile of junk into a room.
This house was packed literally floor to ceiling, as you can see.
How can this happen?
Easily.
A childless, elderly lady with Alzheimerā€™s lived alone for years. And this is what happened before she passed.
Does hoarding occur in every Alzheimerā€™s case?
No.
But elderly individuals, especially elderly hose with Alzheimerā€™s or dementia, often have hoarding tendencies. And sometimes, it becomes a huge problem.
We all have struggles.
And we all need a little help sometimes.

Sometimes I scavenge at the dump.
Most days are a bust.
But as they sayā€¦ even a blind squirrel finds an acorn every now and then.
No luck today.

Many of the spaces we clean out have an interesting story to share.
This barnā€¦ is not one of those cleanouts.
Thereā€™s nothing much to say, other than it took us about an hour and a half to clean all of the junk out of this barn.

This is what came out of our shed cleanout today.
We will be keeping that firewood, thank you very much. Itā€™s almost perfect weather for a romantic fire pit night!
Accompanied by a dip in the inflatable hot tub that the Junk Hunk got me to make up for the fact that we donā€™t have a bathtub.

A Eulogy for a Floral Warrior

Today, we gather in the back of this trailer to honor a fallen heroā€¦
A chair of distinction. A throne of floral fortitude. A tufted titan.

She was not subtle.
She did not whisper.
She arrivedā€”in full bloom.

With her proud mauve blossoms and dusty blue petals, she stood boldly in living rooms across decades, declaring, ā€œYes, I have seen thingsā€¦ and I have matching drapes.ā€

She cradled tired backs.
She endured family reunions.
She survived at least one uncle who leaned too hard after Thanksgiving dinner.

Her cushions were deep.
Her patterns were fearless.
Her wooden armrests bore the scars of remote controls, coffee cups, and possibly a dramatic soap opera binge or two.

Though time may have softened her stuffingā€¦
And gravity may have claimed her once-perky poiseā€¦
Her spirit remained plush.

Today she rides off not in shame, but in glory ā€” escorted with honor, strapped gently into the trailer like the queen she always believed she was.

May her springs finally rest.
May her skirted base flutter freely in the great furniture showroom beyond.
And may we all someday be remembered as boldly as she livedā€¦
