We had a fun Valentine’s Day celebration yesterday afternoon to kick off Valentine’s Day weekend! It’s always so good to just spend time together. We listened to some love songs, talked and laughed, and ate some delicious snacks and punch! Happy Valentine’s Day from all of us at The Hive! 💕

It sure has been cold outside, but we are always warm and cozy at The Hive! ❄️🥰

We are so blessed and thankful for wonderful staff that make sure to always find a way to care for our residents! Signing up to do this line of work means knowing there may be sacrifices to make along the way. Sometimes the sacrifices of this job may be coming to work no matter the circumstances, staying overnight due to inclement weather, giving up time with one’s own family to make sure someone else’s loved ones are cared for…but that’s what makes the job so special! Someone else’s loved one truly also becomes our own, and we couldn’t imagine being anywhere but right here when we’re needed. If you know someone who works in healthcare or as a caregiver in any way, be sure to remind them what a blessing they are to others—especially during times like these!! 🤍

It’s a calling and high honor to be able to care for those who once cared for us, and we’re so glad to do just that at BeeHive Homes of Grayson County every day…come rain (snow) or shine! 🥰🐝

Happy Birthday to our wonderful Ms. Corene!! 🥳🤍🎉

Ms. Corene is such a caring and kind person! She can often be found checking on other people and staff around our home—she almost always beats me to the punch to ask how I’m feeling or how I’m doing each day! She is also such a wealth of knowledge in so many ways, and one of my favorite things that she knows best is that she can tell ya how to cook just about anything in the world! 😋😍

For her birthday meal, Ms. Corene requested fried chicken, slaw, green beans, a roll, and coconut cream pie instead of cake. Our most favorite part was the pie, of course! We are all stuffed!! Happy Birthday, Ms. Corene! We love you so much and are so thankful to have you as a member of our BeeHive family! 🥳🤍🐝

We have partied hard for days for a very special lady’s 100th birthday! Our sweet Ms. Virginia turned 100 years old today! 🥳🎉🩷

We were blessed to host many of her family and friends for a party on Saturday—close to 100 people for her 100 years!! It was so sweet to celebrate her!

Today, we were blessed to host family and friends for her special birthday lunch. She requested fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, coleslaw, a roll, and banana cake. It was all sooo delicious, and we are all stuffed! 😋

When I asked Ms. Virginia her favorite age, favorite memory, or favorite decade of her life so far, she said she isn’t sure of what that would be! She’s had such a full, meaningful, and beautiful life that it’s hard to decide. She worked hard—she can remember walking a good distance to school in a one room school house while packing her lunch in a bucket at a young age, milking cows and helping at times when things were hard on the farm, learning to sew, making her own clothing, working in the kitchen with her mom and other family members. She also vividly remembers riding in a horse drawn buggy with her siblings one Easter that it had snowed and they all had to make it to church! It’s amazing to think of all the changes she has seen in her lifetime.

Ms. Virginia’s life reminds me of a scripture verse in 1 Thessalonians; she has led a quiet life, she has worked with her hands, and she loves others…she has now been doing all of that for a whole century! What a wonderful blessing her life has been to so many, and we are so honored that she is a part of our life each day. Happy 100th Birthday, Ms. Virginia! We love you and are so thankful to have you as a member of our BeeHive family! 🩷🐝🎉🥳

As we get closer to welcoming our first baby, we wanted to share our excitement with our residents by including them in one of our baby showers! 🍼🤰💕

Our Kitchen Manager, Melissa Blanton, helped to organize a wonderful shower for us!! We were so surprised at all she had done to make this so special for us—and especially for the residents! Many of them haven’t been to a baby shower in quite a few years, and haven’t had a baby of their own for a few years, also! There were many comments about remembering their own babies, remembering gifts they got for their arrivals, remembering where they shopped for their babies, and all the excitement that came with new parenthood. We feel so blessed, and we know that we are so fortunate, to have BeeHive as our family. Our baby will have lots of grandparents that will love her and cherish her with us always! We all can’t wait until she’s here!! 🎀🍼🐝🩷

Thank you to everyone that came out to our Christmas Open House last night! We always love to have family members and community members in our home, and this is one of our favorite days of the year to welcome everyone in. We didn’t get to snap pictures of everyone, but we were blessed to host around 90 people throughout the evening, and it was so good to see everyone celebrating together. None of this would be possible without our Kitchen Manager, Melissa Blanton, and our wonderful staff!! We are so fortunate to be blessed with the best! ❤️

The Beginning of Bee Hive Homes of Grayson County

In 2008, John and Mary Nell Bouvier discovered Bee Hive Homes from a friend whose mother was a resident at a Bee Hive Home in Brandenburg. At that time, Mary Nell was working as a long term care Administrator and John had retired from a career in law enforcement and criminal justice. They lived in Owensboro, KY.

The Bouvier’s began researching and visiting Bee Hive Homes. They liked the Bee Hive concept of an assisted living community, usually located in a small town, that feels like a real home. After some research, they believed that Bee Hive Homes offered them the opportunity to use their business experience and talents. A Bee Hive Homes mentor pointed them to the Leitchfield/Grayson County area, noting that it was a growing and progressive community.

Community leaders were welcoming and helpful. It didn’t take long for the Bouviers to realize they had made the right choice. In November 2011, Bee Hive Homes of Grayson County opened. In 2016 we were named the Small Business of the Year by the Grayson County Chamber of Commerce. Today, Bee Hive employs 17 staff members. Occupancy is usually 95-100%. The Bouviers moved to the Rough River Lake are in 2012 to ensure they are involved in the day to day operations of their Bee Hive.
