WHAT ROLE DOES GLYCATION PLAY IN AGING SKIN?

“Sugar doesn’t just affect your waistline — it affects your collagen.”

Glycation is what happens when sugar in your body attaches to your collagen. When that happens, the collagen becomes stiff and brittle instead of firm and flexible. Over time, that stiffness leads to deeper wrinkles and lines, rough, rigid texture, sagging, and dull-looking skin.

Poikiloderma of Civatte, it is a common yet often overlooked, benign chronic skin condition affecting the neck, décolletage, and occasionally the lateral cheeks.

Characterised by diffuse redness, mottled pigmentation, fine visible vessels, and skin thinning, it typically presents in a distinctive V-shaped distribution, sparing the skin beneath the chin.

☀️ Cumulative sun exposure is the primary contributor, with hormonal changes, genetic predisposition, and photosensitising products also playing a role.
