We are honored to invite you, your family, and your friends to the Vivekananda International East West (VIEW) 2026 Yoga Conference. This free event is a unique opportunity to deepen your practice and connect with the profound history of Yoga in Chicago.
In 1893, Swami Vivekananda brought the light of Yoga and Vedanta to the world during the Parliament of Religions right here in our city. Today, we carry that torch forward by exploring the four major paths—Raja, Bhakti, Jnana, and Karma Yoga—that influence the Hatha yoga we practice together.

Happy Makara Sankranti

On this Makar Sankranti (January 14, 2026), we celebrate a major cosmic reset as the Sun enters Makara (Capricorn), marking the start of its Uttarayan (northward journey) into northern hemisphere. Think of this as the "Solar Gateway"—the moment the Earth begins to tilt back toward the light, bringing longer days and the gradual end of winter's stillness. In the yoga tradition, this shift signifies the transition from the internal, reflective months into a season of vitality and outward growth.
Following this solar shift, our journey of renewal continues:
The first silent new moon arrives on Mouni Amavasya (Jan 18).
The Sun’s energy accelerates on Ratha Saptami (Jan 25) as the "Chariots of Fire" move us toward spring.
The last of the winter cold dissolves during the great night of Maha Shivaratri (Feb 15).
We welcome global renewal with the Chinese Lunar New Year (Feb 17) and the vibrant colors of Holi (Mar 4).
A "green" reawakening takes hold on St. Patrick’s Day (Mar 17).
Finally, we reach the Vernal Equinox on Ugadi (Mar 19), the "beginning of an era," followed by the ultimate celebration of life on Easter (Apr 5).
As the Sun moves north, may your own inner light grow brighter, moving you from the shadows of winter into a season of new possibilities!
