ATTENTION:
Did you know, disinfectants have a "dwell time," or amount of time they must remain wet on a surface, in order to kill germs and viruses!

So, you've wiped down your counters, door handles and other surfaces in your home with disinfectant wipes. That should take care of the coronavirus, right?

Not necessarily...

Spraying store-brand disinfectant around your home, then wiping it off immediately to fight off colds and flu. The problem is that disinfectants have a "dwell time," or a period that the disinfectant must remain on a surface in order to work (and usually found on a label). If a disinfectant is wiped off immediately, or if it evaporates too quickly, it won't be effective.

For example, Lysol Disinfectant Spray claims on its website to kill 99.9% of fungi, viruses and bacteria, but says surfaces must remain wet for 10 seconds to sanitize and thee minutes for disinfect. For norovirus, it says surfaces must remain wet for 10 minutes!

The strain of coronavirus responsible for the current COVID-19 disease outbreak is an enveloped virus, meaning it has an outer coating borrowed from infected cells. While this allows the virus to remain stable for hours or days, according to the National Institutes of Health, it Can by killed off with disinfectants.

As communities begin to feel the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19), I want to share with you the steps we’re taking at AmeriKleen Services to help protect the health and safety of our customers and associates, which is always our top priority.

Thankfully, as of now, we’re not aware of any of our associates contracting COVID-19. But we have implemented guidelines that instruct any associate who may develop symptoms or come into contact with infected individuals to stay home and follow the CDC’s instructions. And impacted associates will be compensated for their missed work hours.
