For more than 50 years, the American Network of Community Options and Resources (ANCOR) has championed the essential role service providers play in enriching the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). We’re grateful for the opportunity to be part of such an important and meaningful conversation.

Nanette Perrin, Senior Director of Long Term Care and LifeShare at Sunflower Health Plan, was honored to present during the ANCOR Member Webinar, Compliance in Community Integration & Provider Practice: Insights from Individuals with Lived Experience, alongside Whitney Downing, Ricardo Hernandez, and Perri Spencer from the Kansas Council on Developmental Disabilities (KCDD).

This powerful session highlighted how Kansas IDD providers are moving from policy to practice strengthening compliance with the HCBS Final Settings Rule—grounded not only in regulatory expectations, but in the voices of people receiving services. Their lived experiences helped illuminate what’s working, where barriers remain, and what autonomy, dignity, and true community inclusion look like in everyday life.

Thank you to ANCOR, KCDD, fellow advocates, and all who attended for your continued commitment to advancing person-centered, inclusive, and rights-based services.

Birthdays should be a time of celebration—but for many families in need, that’s not always possible. Recently, Sunflower’s executive and senior leadership teams gathered for a hands-on volunteer event to help change that.

Through the Harvesters - The Community Food Network Birthday in a Box Program, we assembled 50 boxes filled with cake mix, frosting, candles, decorations and encouraging notes—everything needed for a special celebration. These boxes will go directly to households served by Harvesters, ensuring no birthday goes unnoticed.

“Packing birthday boxes today wasn’t just a service project—it was a reminder that celebration is essential. A cake and candles may be small, but the message is big: you matter, your day matters.”
— Michael Stephens, Sunflower President & CEO

This initiative reflects the power of community and compassion. A simple gesture can make a big impact—and we’re proud to play a part in making birthdays brighter.
