This is a fun one, kiddos enjoy this too💕

Lay on the floor, couch, or bed all stretched out on your back. Start with one group of muscles at a time and tighten/stretch/flex for so many seconds and then relax those muscles. Then go to another group of muscles and continue until you have done your whole body. I like to start with feet or hands and work my way to my head.

I dk about anyone else but I’ve been seeing a trend for chopped sandwiches. So this has been my summer obsession: grilled chicken, olive oil mayo, pickles (fermented foods are great for our gut), mustard, and sometimes other random foods - all chopped up and placed over lettuce (from my garden thanks to !!). Vitamin D is amazing for anxiety/stress. If you’ve ever had Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), vitamin D through sunlight exposure or supplement is amazing for this. The summer is a perfect time to get sunlight. Remember to go without sunglasses if you are in the sun as it can help you absorb vitamin D better and decreases your chances of getting sun burnt.

Missed the fact it was Earth Day 🌎 yesterday. So in honor of Earth Day, here is a photo of some Dandelion flowers my daughter picked for me. You might think: pesky w**d, but Dandelion has so many natural benefits! So helpful for many things in the body including liver and kidneys. You can use all parts of the dandelion (flower, leaves, roots). How cool is that?! 🤩🌎

One of my all time favorites for tight muscles: Ancient Minerals Magnesium spray - you spray it on topically and it absorbs straight into the muscles. I find it most relaxing to use before going to bed at night.

The Vagus nerve is a cranial nerve that exits our skull and travels down each side of our neck, past the heart, and innervates the GI tract. Because of its location (on both sides of the neck), we can activate it to help switch from the sympathetic nervous system to parasympathetic nervous system- to help with rest and relaxation.
To activate the vagus nerve you can gargle water, or place two fingers as you do when you check your pulse below your jaw, press lightly in, and hum when you exhale.

This tip may be the most important one of all. I’ve tried all the health tips myself for decreasing stress - from nutrients in my food, to herbs, to physical exercises, and this has made the most difference in my mental health for having peace and decreasing stress - giving it to God. During this advent season there are 4 topics that are discussed and one being peace which to me is the opposite of stress/anxiety.

Philippians 4:6-7: Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

It’s been awhile since I’ve shared about myself on this page. A lot has happened in my life the past few years that has caused me to be more present in real time and less online (2 kids 18 months apart). This fall I had a new idea for the direction of this page - rest, relaxation, less stress for healing purposes. The theme of what I encountered for the majority of my patients (and myself!) this year.

I realized I haven’t really gone in depth into why I became a chiropractor who specializes in functional medicine. So let me share with you from the very beginning of my healing journey!

I was about 10/11 years old when my mom noticed I had a goiter (enlarged thyroid), so she took me for lab testing and consulted with a few different Dr’s. One Dr recommended radiation therapy 😱, another synthroid (my lab results were never just hypothyroid, they went back and forth), and then one Dr recommended we do liquid iodine in my drinking water. My mother choose the safest and most natural option - liquid iodine in my water. I can’t tell you how long it took, but my goiter went completely away and I didn’t have any more thyroid issues as a child! Praise God.
Fast forward to grad school and I started feeling fullness in my throat when swallowing and laying down. I had an ultrasound done on my thyroid and there were 2 nodules of concern (a nodule 1cm in size or larger is considered of concern). I had just started taking post-grad courses for functional medicine and decided to go with natural treatment (food, supplements, etc). At my 1 year follow up ultrasound one of the nodules was completely gone and the other was dramatically decreased in size. I also didn’t have any issues swallowing or feeling fullness in my throat any more. I was so excited!
There is more to my healing journey which I promise to share later. 💕
