The State Laboratory has notified us that a raccoon submitted for testing was infected with the rabies virus.

The raccoon was found on Echo Drive in a horse pasture. There is no evidence to believe the horses had physical contact with the raccoon. This is the first confirmed rabies case in the county this year.

Measles is a highly contagious disease that can lead to serious complications, especially in young children. The best protection? Vaccination.

✅ What you need to know:

Burke County Public Health has a Measles case, listing Bo's Family Entertainment in Lenoir as an exposure location

If you attended Bo's Family Entertainment in Lenoir on 2/14/26, from 7-11:30pm, do not panic!

Measles spreads through coughing, sneezing, and close contact.
Symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose, and rash.

If you have these symptoms, call your doctor (do not enter the health care building, call first)

Measles has a 21-day incubation period so symptom monitoring should continue until March 7th

Vaccination is safe,and effective

Make sure everyone in your household is up to date on their MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccine.

If you notice symptoms, seek medical care immediately, call before entering the building.
