The families I work with will tell you, I am extremely picky with my referrals. One would never have knee surgery without plans for physical therapy and rehabilitation. So why is it so common to release lip and tongue ties without that same sense of collaboration?
I say all of this as someone who's breastfeeding relationship was saved by an "off the street" lip tie release. But I look back at my daughter's journey, and her unreleased tongue tie significantly affects her to this day, and recognize that this isn't optimal. That says nothing about the OBVIOUS body dysfunction she was clearly suffering from through infancy...YIKES! Something about "hindsight being 20:20..." applies here.
My patients who take a fully collaborative journey to tongue tie release have a higher level of success and less chance of reattachment than those who go straight to frenectomy. When you work with me, we will plan to work on building functional skills before seeing a pediatric dentist to get your baby primed for a successful release. Dr. Sage is my go-to referral for release in San Antonio and has consistently shown to be the best provider for my families. We are so thankful to collaborate with her and her team at Alamo Heights Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics
