We created Akoma & Soul two years ago with the mission of finding a way for women of color to connect and build community. Our original vision involved creating in person spaces for us to retreat and rejuvenate.

The pandemic gave us the opportunity to pivot and create a virtual community. We have been privileged to meet so many of you online, to dance, laugh, breathe, and move together. We are so grateful to have shared space with each and everyone of you.

This past year has been enormously challenging. We have not been able to navigate the many demands placed on us and maintain a small business. In the spirit of radical self care, we have made the very difficult decision to dissolve Akoma & Soul.

Thank you for supporting us and being a part of our community.

As always please take good care of you,

Tangai and Unoma

What are you carrying that really isn't yours to carry? What would letting go of what does not serve you look and feel like? What would it mean to give yourself grace? ❤

Holiday Self-care Tip
What are you grateful for? We talk about this a lot right? Finding gratitude as a way to move ourselves forward. Finding gratitude does not have to mean searching out the largest thing you are grateful for, it can be as simple as gratitude for the cup of tea that brought you peace, the nuzzle a pet gave you, the enjoyment you get in being a plant parent, or that no one got on your nerves today. Give it a try.

Join us for an online workshop and conversation on how we nourish our bodies with food with a presentation, question & answer session and discussion.

In this conversation, we will discuss historical origins that determine the ways we talk about nutrition and body, general nutrition guidelines, mythbusting misconceptions about diet rules, and evaluating sources of information when looking for personalized nutrition advice. Kymber will also be providing practical solutions to overcome your obstacles in your journey to a peaceful relationship with food, nutrition, and health.

We are so excited to have Kymber Stephenson a Registered Dietician Nutritionist living and working in the Greater Denver area. Her experience began with a love of food which led her to pursue a degree in Culinary Arts from Johnson & Wales University. As her love of science and helping people wove with that initial path, she continued on to a Bachelor of Science in Culinary Nutrition with a dual concentration in clinical dietetics and culinary food science.

This workshop is a safe space for womxn of color to connect not only about nutrition but to build community.

We are as black women are incredible, we are beautiful, we are strong, we are supple, we are delicate, we are fragile and at the same time tempered like steel. The black woman is everything and the black woman is worthy of unconditional love with the primary source being from ourselves.

The heart lies heavy as the infrastructure set up by a white supremacist culture seems to negate that however here is where our power lies. Finding light in the midst of pain is an act of resistance. It is an act of self-love. It is soul care. In the middle of this swirling storm, hold on to your light in whatever form it comes, in the little moments scattered throughout the day that remind us of our humanity.

We offer this TwerkCare Sunday a light filled practice, we will dance, we will twerk gyrating our hips, liberating ourselves and finding light in our movements and breath. We will find each other in community holding ourselves up as only we can.

We hope you join us.

What does self-care mean during an uprising? How do you make space for your mental well-being amidst the constant devaluation of Black lives? From the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on Black and Brown communities to racial violence, it is okay to not be okay. The world continues to move around us at a dizzying pace. Events happening that affect our heart almost at a pace that seems unsustainable. This meditation is an invitation to find stillness, come home to ourselves to find the grounding that keeps us going.
