Dr. Carl E. Borders, Jr.

Carl Edison Borders, Jr., M.D., 89, of San Francisco, California, died on February 19, 2026.

Carl was born in Lost City, Kentucky on August 17, 1936, to the late Carl E. Borders, Sr. and Elsie D. Borders of Rochester Hills, Michigan.

He graduated from Pontiac High School in 1954, took a year to work, build a sailboat, and earn his tuition. He then went on to the University of Michigan and graduated from its Medical School in 1964.

Upon completing his Internship in San Francisco, he was drafted into the United States Army with the rank of Captain and served a year in Vietnam with a MUST Unit operating in his chosen field of Orthopedics. While he was in Vietnam, his son, Carl E. Borders, III was born.

Upon completion of his military service, he settled in Winston Salem, North Carolina to complete his residency in Orthopedics. During his residency, his other son, Craig P. Borders was born.

Upon completion of his residency, he, his wife, Abby (Chapman), and boys moved to San Francisco where he opened his Orthopedic practice and became a full-time golfing Doctor and member of The Olympic Club where he remained a member until his death. He later became a founding member of The Palms Golf Club in La Quita, California so he could continue his passion in the winter months. He was an avid sailor who built his own sailboat in the winter of 1954-55 at the age of 18 and sailed on Silver and Loon Lakes near Pontiac, Michigan in the summer of 1955. Later, while in Medical School, he sailed a friend’s two mast Trimaran sailboat alone from Bay City to Traverse City thru Lake Huron, the Straits of Mackinaw and Lake Michigan. He raised his sons sailing on the San Francisco Bay and skiing in nearby Lake Tahoe with family and close friends.

He is survived by his sons, Carl E. Borders, III of Redondo Beach, California, and Craig P. Borders of Santa Barbara, California; three grandchildren Arden L Borders of Redondo Beach, Maxine S. Borders and Luke G. Borders of Santa Barbara, California; his siblings, Claudia M. Borders (Nancy) of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Sidney R. Borders (Lynne) of Shelby Township, Michigan, and Dale R. Borders (Janet) of Battle Creek, Michigan; nephews and niece, Matthew Borders, Bryan (Jennifer) Borders, Jeffrey (Chelsie) Borders, and Kate Borders; and his great niece and nephews, Elsie, Odin and Holden.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 28, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Price Funeral Home in Lewisburg, Kentucky. Visitation at the Funeral Home from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in Beechland Cemetery in Beechland, Kentucky next to his parents and not far from where he was born.

James William Obenchain, 86 of Dunmor, Kentucky passed away on Friday, February 20, 2026, at Hospice of Southern Kentucky, Inc. in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

He was born Tuesday, February 6, 1940, the son of the late Dennis Obenchain and the late Mary Seaton Obenchain. He was the husband of the late Margaret "Ann" Wood Obenchain.

He was a tow motor operator for Carpenter Company and was a member of Victory Baptist Church.

Surviving are son, Darin Obenchain of Lewisburg; sister, Bernice Forgy of Lewisburg; two brothers, Gerald Obenchain of Penrod, KY, Charlie Obenchain of Dennis, KY; granddaughter, Sarah Hardin of Franklin; grandson, Darin Scott Obenchain of Lewisburg, KY; great-granddaughter, Audrie Hardin of Franklin.

In addition to his wife and parents, James was preceded in death by his daughter, Beverly Hardcastle, and two brothers, Orval Lee Obenchain and Jerry Denton Obenchain.

A funeral service will be at 1:00 pm on Monday, February 23, 2026 at Price Funeral Home, Inc. located at 252 E. Green St., Lewisburg; with Bro. David Austin officiating. Interment will be in Wyatt Chapel Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until the time of the service on Monday at Price Funeral Home, Inc.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Forgy, Stevie Forgy, Cody Brown, Tim Noffsinger, Jenoah Noffsinger, and Jazziah Noffsinger.

Edith Ethelene Slaughter, 94 of Lewisburg, Kentucky passed away on Monday, February 16, 2026, at Creekwood Nursing and Rehab in Russellville, Kentucky.

She was born Sunday, September 20, 1931, the daughter of the late Claude Willis and the late Laura Rager Willis. She was the wife of the late Estel Melrose Slaughter.

Edith was a homemaker and was a member of Wileys Chapel United Methodist Church.

Surviving are brother, Loyd Willis of Lewisburg, KY.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Elton Willis and Delmes Willis.

A funeral service will be at 2:00 pm on Friday, February 20, 2026 at Price Funeral Home, Inc. located at 252 E. Green St., Lewisburg; with Bro. Travis Bryan officiating. Interment will be in New Cedar Grove Cemetery located in Elkton, KY.

We've had several people ask us about the "sticks" holding up our roof. No, it's not damaged. Part of the process of getting our porch fixed involves temporarily removing our large columns from the front of the building. Once everything is finished, they'll go right back where they're supposed to. Thanks for all of the patience and encouragement! We sincerely appreciate it!

Harold Glenn Staples, 86 of Dunmor, Kentucky passed away on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at Greenwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

He was born Tuesday, February 21, 1939, the son of the late Leslie Staples and the late Ethel Porter Staples. He was the husband of Patty Kitchens Staples of Dunmor, who survives.

He spent many years as a truck driver for the Coca-Cola plant in Russellville. He also worked for Odom's Sausage and BTR. He was also a Christian and a faithful member of Dunmor Baptist Church, where we was a member for over 75 years.

In addition to his wife, Harold is survived by two daughters, Darlene Staples of Russellville, KY and Debbie Morgan of Elkton, KY; two sons, Ricky Staples of Hodgenville, KY and Dwayne Staples of Powderly, KY; several grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Harold is preceded in death by daughters, Kathy Boobar and Karen Bigham; son, Marcus Brent Staples; six sisters, Pauline Jenkins, Vivian Staples, Mildred Gibson, Hazel Woodlee, Clara White, and Ilene Baugh; brother, Delbert Staples.

A funeral service will be at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, February 11, 2026 at Price Funeral Home, Inc. located at 252 E. Green St., Lewisburg; with Bro. Jeremy Whitney and Bro. Austin Weist officiating. Interment will be in Dunmor Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until the time of the service on Wednesday at Price Funeral Home, Inc.

Phase 1 of our building remodel is about to begin! We're all set up to begin the construction of our new front porch! We will be replacing and connecting all three front porches into a single complete one. We will also be adding in two 6-foot-wide ADA accessible ramps to the front of the building. With all that is going on and to keep everyone safe, we will be having our front doors closed until further notice. To enter and exit the building, please use the back door. Elvera Nealy, 88 of Lewisburg, Kentucky passed away on Friday, January 2, 2026, at her home.

She was born in Hopkinsville, KY on Friday, December 10, 1937, the daughter of the late John Hiram Naylor and the late Dennie Mae Jones Naylor. She was the wife of the late Elmer Nealy.

She was a homemaker who enjoyed quilting, yard work, working in to***co, and reading her Bible. She also spent her time playing games and cards with her family. Elvera was a dedicated member of New Ebenezer Baptist Church for several years before attending Glorybound Church in Gordonsville.

Surviving are daughter, Carolyn Nealy (Bruce) Bunton of Louisville, KY; two granddaughters, Amanda (Anthony) Stokes of Lewisburg, Natalie (Anthony) Jessup of Lewisburg; three great grandsons, Hunter Jessup of Lewisburg, Judson Jessup of Lewisburg, Christian Stokes of Lewisburg; sister, Loretta Powell of Hopkinsville; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Elvera deeply loved her family, and found joy in caring for babies, children, and the elderly.

She was preceded in death by daughters, Brenda Nealy and Barbara Christian; great grandson, Eli Jessup.

A funeral service will be at 2:00 pm on Sunday, January 4, 2026, at Price Funeral Home, Inc. located at 252 E. Green St., Lewisburg; with Bro. Johnny Fuller officiating. Interment will be in Pea Ridge Cemetery.

Jane Jolene Thompson, 68 of Lewisburg, Kentucky passed away on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at her home.

She was born in Park Rapids, MN on Thursday, November 21, 1957, the daughter of the late William Thompson and the late Margaret Luft Thompson.

She was a homemaker and attended Tabernacle Independent Missionary Baptist Church in Lewisburg. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and soon-to-be great grandmother who loved the Lord and was proud of her faith.

Surviving are Daughter, Kelly Chute of Lewisburg,; two grandsons, Stuart (Riley) Russell of Bowling Green and Greyson Chute of Lewisburg; great granddaughter on the way, Charlee Novela Russell of Bowling Green; two brothers, Charlie Thompson of Walker, MN and Richard Brite of FL; two sisters, Linda Smith of Walker, MN and Marlys Lenarz of Royalton, MN.

Cremation was chosen with services to take place at the family plot in Akeley, MN at a later date.

Dunmor- Opal "Grandmother" Margie Latham, 95, surrounded by her family, met Jesus at 10:15 pm on December 15, 2025. She was at Creekwood Nursing and Rehab in Russellville, Kentucky.

"Grandmother" or "Aunt Margie" was born Sunday, January 19, 1930, to Murray and Mary Porter.

She was a very active and faithful member of Dunmor Baptist Church for 76 years. She and her family never missed a service except for sickness or death.

Margie's most important duty was being a homemaker for her husband Kyle Latham (more than 50 years) and her four children. She was a fabulous cook using that talent for years at Lake Malone and Dunmor schools. Also, she was famous for her dumplings, rolls, & fried apple pies. Margie shared food with everyone in the community with a need. Another gift Margie had was sewing. She not only sewed for her family but, help quilt lots of quilts for the Covered in Love Quilt Ministry at Dunmor Baptist Church. Margie carried that "Porter" sense of humor all her life and didn't care to share it with anyone.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kyle Latham; daughter, Vickie Martin; six siblings; and granddaughter Amanda.

She is survived by her son, Ricky (Jeanette) Latham; two daughters, Lynn (Wayne) Joines and Sheila (Gerald) Heltsley; grandchildren Gery (Tonya) Joines, Serena (Jamie) Travis, Billy Latham, Jared (Rosie) Latham, Christy (Shawn) Whitis, Jason (Andera) Martin, Jackie (Brian) Hollis, Darnell (Mike) Fleener; great grands Drew and Lucas Travis, Elizabeth and Rachael Joines, Kyle (Shari) Latham, Sebastian Martin, Klaidyn, Kylie Tea, Maggie Jo, Victoria, Charlie, and Scarlette Hollis, Drew (Storm) Bratcher, Evan Whitis, and Reece Whitis; Five great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Nannie Gardener; special care takers, Gloria Thomas and Mike Porter; and several nieces and nephews who loved her very much.

A funeral service will be at 2:00 pm on Friday, December 19, 2025 at Price Funeral Home, Inc.; located at 252 E. Green Street, Lewisburg, KY 42256 with Bro. Rick Clark and Bro. Austin Weist officiating. Interment will follow in Dunmor Cemetery.
