Established in 1891, Central Maine Medical Center (CMMC) is a 250 bed tertiary care hospital and trauma center located in Lewiston, Maine. CMMC is home to Central Maine Heart and Vascular Institute (CMHVI), the three-year Family Medicine Residency Program, and is one of two bases for LifeFlight of Maine (the State of Maine’s only air medicine program owned by Central Maine Healthcare and Eastern Maine Healthcare in Bangor). With its large and growing number of primary care providers, including internal medicine, family practice, pediatrics, NPs and PAs, the hospital also includes more than forty medical and surgical specialties.

Our team at CMMC and our practices are participating in Wear Red Day as part of National Women’s Heart Month, raising awareness and showing support for the women in our community.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death for women, yet many don’t recognize the signs, which can look different than they do in men. Nearly 45% of women over age 20 are living with some form of cardiovascular disease, making awareness and early care more important than ever.

Lung cancer affects families right here in our community — and catching it early can make all the difference.

Thanks to the support of Free ME From Lung Cancer, more local patients now have access to low-dose CT (LDCT) lung screenings through Central Maine Heart and Vascular Institute (CMHVI). These screenings help detect lung cancer earlier, when treatment is more effective and options are greater. ❤️

One year after a frightening health crisis, a former patient walked back into Central Maine Medical Center — this time to say thank you.

Jim from Farmington spent weeks in the ICU fighting severe respiratory failure and septic shock, cared for by a dedicated team that included Erwey Teng, MD. His long road to recovery continued with rehabilitation at both CMMC and Bridgton Hospital, supported every step of the way by family and caregivers who never gave up.

Now back home and back to the routines he loves, Jim’s visit was a full-circle moment for the caregivers who stood by him every step of the way. 💙

Dr. Jennifer Waterman, DO, is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in foot and ankle care, focused on helping patients return to work, activity, and daily life after injury.

Before specializing in foot and ankle surgery, Dr. Waterman served as a flight surgeon in the U.S. military, caring for fighter pilots. ✈️ She went on to complete advanced fellowship training at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.

One year later, the Minot Avenue “special delivery” is officially ONE! 🎂💙

Last year, a routine day at Minot Avenue Family Medicine turned into something unforgettable. As Alexis Libby, MA, was getting ready to head home, her baby Logan decided it was time to arrive (and fast). With most of the staff already gone, Nathan Raby, DO, stepped in and, with help on the phone from CMMC maternity team, safely delivered Logan right there in the office.

On January 15th, that “Minot Ave. special delivery” turned one year old 🥳 To mark the occasion, the team hosted a birthday celebration for Logan, whose arrival is still talked about with smiles. The room where he was born has even been named Logan's Room in his honor!

Happy 1st Birthday, Logan! 🎂 What a special connection you’ll always have to the Minot Ave. team.
