What Is a Thyroid Ultrasound and What to Expect

Most thyroid ultrasounds are painless, fast, and easily tolerated. It uses high-frequency sound waves to create images of the thyroid gland and surrounding neck structures. This test is often used to evaluate the size, shape, and texture of the thyroid, detect nodules, cysts, or other abnormalities, and guide biopsies if necessary.

What Happens During the Exam?
* Preparation: This procedure requires little to no special preparation. Leave jewelry at home and wear loose, comfortable clothing.
* Procedure: You’ll lie on your back with your neck slightly extended. A small amount of gel is applied to your skin to help transmit sound waves. A sonographer moves a handheld device (transducer) over your neck to capture images.
* Duration: An ultrasound of the thyroid is usually completed within 30 minutes.

What Does It Detect?
Thyroid ultrasounds help identify:
* Nodules or lumps: These can be benign or may require further testing.
* Thyroid enlargement (goiter): Often caused by iodine deficiency or autoimmune conditions.
* Structural irregularities: Such as cysts or tumors, helping to guide next steps in care.

Since it doesn’t use radiation, ultrasound is safe for all patients. The test is quick, effective, and provides valuable information to guide your care.

✨ From groundbreaking innovation to everyday healthcare ✨

Did you know that diagnostic ultrasound has been around since the 1950s? 🕰️ It all started with a bold idea: using sound waves to create images inside the human body. One of the most iconic moments in its history was the first-ever fetal ultrasound, a glimpse into the womb that changed obstetrics and ultrasound forever.

At Lewis Clark Imaging, we’re proud to bring the latest in diagnostic imaging technology to our community!

🎥 1st Clip: The first fetal ultrasound in action! Clip taken from ABC Education: Echoscope: The birth of the ultrasound. Check out the whole video here: https://youtu.be/CadQMbAJsCI?si=B7vqEikB-1xAgSSy

👶2nd Clip: 28 week fetus at our office. It’s incredible how the technology has changed not only in obstetric imaging but in all other aspects of diagnostic ultrasound: vascular, cardiac, general, pediatric, musculoskeletal, breast, and more!

Help us fine-tune our new ultrasound machine with real world cases!

We’re seeking volunteers who have had specific diagnostic imaging in the past 60 days to assist in training sessions as ultrasound models. If you or someone you know fits the criteria, your participation will help improve imaging care in our community as we bring advanced techniques to the LC Valley.

Plus, it’s free! DM us or visit www.lewisclarkimaging.com to learn more. 💡

đź’¦ 3D/4D/HD ultrasound is all about hydration!

When there’s plenty of fluid around your baby’s face, we can capture those precious features with clarity. Swipe to see the difference between a 3D image and its 2D counterpart.

📅 Tip: Start drinking 64oz (half a gallon) of water daily at least a week before your session to maximize fluid levels for breathtaking photos! We have little control over baby’s position and we have some tricks up our sleeve, but the best thing you can do to prepare for the clearest pictures and video clips is to hydrate leading up to your appointment.

Let’s make your ultrasound experience unforgettable. 💕
