The bad news is that according to the CDC, "heart disease is the leading cause of death for men, women, and people of most racial and ethnic groups."

The good news is that prevention of heart disease can be possible and there are so many small ways we can care for our hearts!

From finding time for regular physical activity in ways that we enjoy to staying up to date with regular medical check-ups, see the following from the CDC to learn more about ways to help prevent heart disease.

February is when organizations such as American Heart Association - Healthy for Good and National Institutes of Health (NIH) offer resources on how we can best take care of our heart health.

Tomorrow on Friday, February 6th it's to bring awareness on fighting cardiovascular disease, the leading cause of death among women.

When getting ready tomorrow, we encourage all to to highlight this extremely important health issue.

For those who participated in Dry January this year, congrats! You're just about there!

During this month, you gave your body a break to enjoy all the wonderful things that bring you joy - maybe you spent time outdoors in the snow, tried a new mocktail beverage, or spent more focused time with your friends and family.

Perhaps you noticed some of the benefits of abstaining from alcohol such as better sleep, improved mood, and (re)learning some health-promoting coping strategies!

Let's move into February with your newfound confidence, motivation, awareness, and balance.

Oh, and bundle up - It's still cold out there!

A very cold weekend is ahead, Auburn. Stay safe and stay warm! ❄️

If you need a place to warm up and/or charge devices on Saturday, the Auburn Senior Community Center (next to Auburn Rec at 48 Pettengill Park Road) will be open as a warming center from 9:00AM to 5:00PM.

The Auburn Public Library (49 Spring Street) is another cozy spot to spend some time on Saturday — they’ll be open 9:00AM to 1:00PM.

On Sunday, head to Norway Savings Bank Arena for public skate from 3:50 to 4:50PM. Skate for $5, or simply enjoy the warmth of the mezzanine level. Rental skates are available for $5.

Stay warm, Auburn — and check in on neighbors who may need a hand.
