Did you know May is Better Sleep Month?

May is recognized as Better Sleep Month, encouraging everyone to prioritize their rest. Created in 1978 by the Better Sleep Council, the mission aims to educate people on the connection between good sleep, a healthy body, and quality of life.

Did you know that over one-third of adults sleep less than seven hours a night?

Sleep is also an important factor in maintaining mental well-being. Sleep helps to reduce stress and anxiety. Sleep also improves your focus, sharpens your attention span, and helps to process emotion.

🏡 Homes built before 1978 can often have lead paint. When this paint is damaged or worn down through daily use, it can result in lead dust. This dust settles on the floor, toys, and windowsills and is the biggest cause of childhood lead poisoning.

But the good news is that cleaning weekly with wet disposable cloths, and mopping can really help!

Check out this tip sheet for ways to clean the lead-safe way!

May is …
We’re joining ’s campaign because having more good days isn’t a solo mission.

You don’t have to carry the weight of “not-so-good” days alone. When we look out for one another, more good days become possible for all of us.

Young kids below the age of 6 are most at risk for long-term negative effects from lead poisoning. Kids will typically look and feel just fine, even if lead is getting into their body causing long-term damage.

That’s why testing is so important!
In Maine, kids are required to get a blood lead test at ages one and two.

Make sure to ask your doctor about it, and read more here: https://www.maine.gov/dhhs/mecdc/healthy-living/health-and-safety/lead-poisoning-prevention/parents

Early detection means early solutions, and time to make your home a safe place.

While many of us know that our homes here in L-A are pretty old…what you might not know is that many contain lead paint that can be a hazard when it gets damage or worn.

L-A is considered by the Maine CDC to be a high risk area for childhood lead poisoning, but as a community we’ve been doing a great job of lowering those numbers! This month, keep an eye out for tips to keep your family and home lead-safe this spring!

📵✨ It’s Screen-Free Week! ✨📵

This week, we challenge our community to unplug a little and reconnect with the world around us. Whether it’s reading a book, taking a walk, playing outside, cooking together, or having a family game night. Small moments away from screens can make a big impact.

Let’s encourage our children by leading the way and showing that fun, connection, and memories don’t need a screen. 💙

Enjoy this BINGO board with your family to go screen-free this week. How many squares can your family complete?
