Optometric Associates Home of Healthier Eyes

Optometric Associates Home of Healthier Eyes Home of Healthier Eyes! We take pride in our staff's extensive eye care training, knowledge, and expertise.

Optometric Associates appreciates each one of our patients and their individual vision needs. Vision is the most precious of the five senses; ask anyone who has experienced normal sight to give it up and almost no one would choose to sacrifice vision. Science has proven that information from the visual pathway is shared throughout 60% of the entire brain not just the part of the brain responsible for vision. This is why patients with head injuries, who experience problems with balance, can be helped by wearing special glasses which alter the way visual information is being processed by the traumatized brain. We believe that with healthier eyes our patients can have happier lives. Our exams provide each patient with the unique information they need to not only have a clear vision, but to work with greater efficiency, better enjoy the beauty of our great state of Maine, and preserve the health and function of their eyes from the ocular surface to peripheral retina. We use our clinical skills and the science of optometry to recommend lenses and products that are specifically designed and manufactured by our partner lab/optical to help you achieve your vision goals and improve your quality of life.

Is Night Glare Making Your Drives Difficult? You're Not Alone! 😵‍💫

Driving at night can be challenging enough, but for many, the blinding glare from headlights and streetlights makes it even worse. If you're experiencing:

Halos or starbursts around lights

Difficulty seeing pedestrians or road signs

Excessive squinting or eye strain
..you might be dealing with night glare!

What Causes Night Glare?
Night glare can be caused by various factors, including:

*Astigmatism
*Dry eyes
*Cataracts
*Uncorrected refractive errors
*Even certain types of contact lenses!

Don't let night glare dim your visibility! While it's crucial to address any underlying eye conditions with your optometrist, there are ways to offset the symptoms:

Anti-Glare Lenses: Special coatings on your glasses can significantly reduce reflections and improve clarity.

Specialized Filters: Certain lens filters, often with a yellow or amber tint, can enhance contrast and reduce the intensity of bright lights.

Proper Prescription: Ensuring your glasses or contacts are up-to-date and correctly prescribed is fundamental.

Keep Your Windshield Clean: A clean windshield inside and out can make a bigger difference than you think!

Look Away from Oncoming Headlights: Briefly shifting your gaze to the right side of your lane can help protect your night vision.

Our Story

Home of Healthier Eyes! Vision is our most precious of the five senses; ask anyone who has experienced normal sight to give it up and almost no one would sacrifice vision. Science has recently proven that information from the visual pathway is shared throughout 60% of the brain not just the part of the brain which is responsible for vision. This is why patients with head injuries, who experience problems with balance, can sometimes be helped by wearing special glasses because that visual information is being processed incorrectly by the traumatized brain.

We fundamentally believe that with healthier eyes our patients can have happier lives. Our exams provide each patient with the unique information they need to not only have clear vision, but to work with greater efficiency on their computers at work, to enjoy the beauty of our great state of Maine without the hinderance of glasses during winter sports or athletic endevors. And to preserve the health and function of the eye and ocular surface to avoid future visual compromise from dry eye, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma and cataracts.

We use our fundamental skills in the science of optometry to reccomend leneses and products that are specifically designed and manufactured by our partner lab/optical to help you achieve your vision goals and improve your quality of life.
