THANK YOU TO THOSE WHO HELPED ME PUT TOGETHER THIS LIST!!!
I know too well how completely derailed your life can feel when you've clawed your way up and you're trying to stand on your own two feet, put one foot in front of the other, and really get some forward momentum going.... and then your car breaks down.
Don't let that hopeless feeling and unmanageable estimate knock you off your path.
You're doing great. I'm proud of you. And everyone needs help sometimes!!
Here is a list of resources to call if you are struggling with the means to maintain personal transportation independance.(feel free to add to it in the comments or make corrections if I got anything wrong!!)
DHHS-
OFI- has an 'emergency assistance' category- this is one time help for unexpected hardships like vehicle repairs, sometimes rent with an eviction notice etc.
CPS- If you have a child protective case open, they have access to different 'pools of money' so contact your case worker to ask them about it.
OPPORTUNITY ALLIANCE-
Is great for anyone in cumberland county and can help with the same type of emergency assistance. (helped with a $500 tow fee) County specific but most counties have their own- York County has Community Action
AIGUSTA FIRE DEPARTMENT- recently got a grant for vehicle related assistance
And
Pathway Vineyard Lewiston church also has a car grant for single moms
General Assistance can help with rent but also can do other emergency assistance and can give you Hannaford vouchers for non food necessities
Others I would try are...
Through These Doors
great program for anyone who has dealt with DV
Workforce Solutions
Helps with any needs related to school or work (tools clothes etc not sure the whole scope but they do a lot)
