The whole “Choose your Hard” trend?

Yeah… I don’t love it.

Because most midlife women ALREADY choose hard.

Hard is…

➡️ Dieting for 30 years.

➡️ Living on coffee and protein bars.

➡️ Doing more cardio when your body is exhausted.

➡️ Feeling guilty every time you eat.

➡️ Pushing through workouts your body can’t recover from.

➡️ Trying plan after plan after plan.

➡️ Watching your body change and not understanding why.

You don’t need more hard.

You need a better strategy.

Midlife is not a discipline problem.

It’s not that you’re lazy. It’s not that you lack willpower. It’s not that you’re not trying.

Growth rarely feels comfortable.

In fact, if it feels easy ... you’re probably not truly expanding.

This weekend I’m stepping into a small, intimate immersion with two women I deeply admire (leaders + expanders) and 5 other like-minded individuals.

Am I nervous?

Heck yes.

This stretches me in every direction:
vision
leadership
beliefs
decisions
Identity

But I ask my clients to do the same thing.

To invest in coaching.
To step into rooms that elevate them.
To surround themselves with people who refuse to let them play small.

So I walk my talk.

Because every quantum leap in my life came from moments like this. Trusted.

If cardio worked, you wouldn’t still be stuck.
If “eat clean” worked, you wouldn’t still be puffy.
If cutting carbs worked, your energy wouldn’t be trash.
If intermittent fasting was the answer, your hormones wouldn’t feel chaotic.

Let’s say the quiet part out loud.
Most midlife fitness advice is outdated.

It’s built on:�Calories in/calories out (only one part of the equation).�Restriction.�Sweat or “Toning”�Trends: Intermittent fasting, cold plunges, fat burners.

Not adaptation.

Muscle is the master lever.

And most coaches are afraid to make it central because it requires:

Intermittent fasting reconsidered.
Peloton streak intact.
Still exhausted.

Do not wait for things to calm down to take care of yourself.
Do not wait for your schedule to clear up.
Do not wait for after XYZ event, season or period of time.

When my mom was going through radiation, I coped with food.

Drive 45 minutes.
Stay strong.
Drive home.
Hold it together.

Then:
Emotion.
Shove down.
Brace harder.
Binge.
Shame.
Repeat.

Food soothed.
Then punished.

In 2024, stress surged again with Mark’s cancer diagnosis.
I collapsed in so many ways.

But one thing didn’t collapse:
My fitness + nutrition foundation.

Protein.
Strength training.
A coach.
A plan.

Sugar spikes cortisol.
Alcohol disrupts sleep.
Processed foods amplify inflammation.
Inflammation amplifies stress.

You don’t wait for calm.

Let me tell you about 6 am yesterday morning.

Hotel WiFi down.
Hotspot not working.
Tablet finally connects.

20 minutes in — my strength session Livestream drops.

Reconnect.
Drops AGAIN.

Old me?

Would have spiraled. Lost my patience. Felt embarrassed. Given up. Beat myself up for not being “more prepared.”

Because when you’re type A?

It translates to gripping. Control. All-or-nothing thinking. Perfection or bust.

And that energy will keep you stuck.

But this year? My word is flow.

So instead of melting down… I rebooted.

Sent the last superset + finisher into Voxer. We finished. Workout complete.

Perfect?
Heck no.

Effective?
Absolutely.

And that’s the lesson.

There is ALWAYS an opportunity to reboot.

Your energy. Your next food choice. Your next lift. Your next thought. Your next standard.

You do not have to operate on an outdated system.

You’re not using a dot matrix printer anymore, are you?

Strong lats create the illusion of a smaller waist.�Strong grip correlates with longevity.�Strong women age differently.

I don’t coach women to chase the scale.

I coach them to:�Deadlift more.�Hold longer planks.�Do 10 real push-ups.�Get their first pull-up.

The most beautiful shift?
Not just the muscle definition.
�The energy.
The “Game On, LFG” energy.�The inner athlete returning.

Pickleball isn’t the problem.�Pilates isn’t the problem.�Peloton isn’t the problem.

The problem is calling them a strategy.

Midlife muscle does not respond to sweat.�It responds to stimulus.

That burn you feel?�Lactic acid.

That puddle on the floor?�Thermoregulation.

Neither guarantees muscle adaptation.
And muscle is not optional after 40.

It is metabolic protection.�It is hormonal buffering.�It is bone density insurance.�It is visual “tone.” Looking like you workout.�It is your long game.

Restriction won’t build it.�More cardio won’t build it.�Random classes won’t build it.
Progressive overload builds it.

Load.�Tension.�Recovery.�Fuel.�Repeat.

This isn’t about doing more.�It’s about demanding more from your training.��You’re using an outdated playbook.

I did too.

Running.�Group fitness classes.�Dieting my way to skinny.�Under-eating protein. Over-eating processed sh*t.
