Public Health - Idaho North Central District

Public Health - Idaho North Central District The Region's Public Health Leader to: Prevent Diseases, Promote Healthy Lifestyles, Protect and Prepare the Public Against Health Threats.

Serving Idaho: Clearwater, Idaho, Latah, Lewis, and Nez Perce Counties. We are the direct result of a partnership agreement between the legislature and the counties. The seven independent Public Health Districts which cover all of Idaho's 44 counties provide preventive health services and education for healthy life-style choices. We contract with the Department of Health and Welfare to offer state-mandated programs. We were created by the 1970 Legislature to insure that preventive public health services are available to all citizens of the state - no matter how small or large their county population.

Air Quality Advisory Remains in Effect for the Nez Perce Reservation

The Air Quality Advisory issued for the Nez Perce Reservation remains in effect. Wildfire smoke may move in and out of the area depending on fire and wind activity; some areas may be more impacted than others. No EPA/NPT burn permits will be approved. This action remains in effect until Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at 10:00am.

Air quality is currently in the “Moderate” to “Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups” categories of the Air Quality Index (AQI). Go to https://fire.airnow.gov/ to track regional air quality. Follow AQI health recommendations and review AQI Basics.

The Idaho Department of Health & Welfare has two charts that may be of interest:
Community Guide for Staying Healthy During Wildfire Events and School Activity Guidelines for Wildfire Smoke Events.

Those who experience greater health effects from smoke include children under 18, elders, pregnant women, people with asthma or have difficulty breathing, diabetes, heart problems or otherwise compromised health, and people who have high exposure (those who work, exercise, or spend extensive time outdoors). Under the most severe pollution levels, sensitive groups should avoid outdoor exposure and limit indoor activities, and everyone should restrict their outdoor activities.

Drive safe this Labor Day weekend and every day!

A reminder from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration:
Before drinking, plan a safe and sober ride home.
Don’t let someone get behind the wheel if they've been drinking.
If you’re hosting a gathering, make sure all your guests have a sober ride home.
If you see an impaired driver, call 911. And always wear your seat belt — it’s your best defense against impaired drivers.

Today is World Breast Cancer Research Day to recognize the science, people, and progress toward better prevention, detection, treatment, and a cure for breast cancer.
Founded in 2021 by the Dr. Susan Love Fund for Breast Cancer Research, the date is intentional: August 18 symbolizes the “1 in 8” statistic that 1 in 8 women (and 1 in 833 men) will be diagnosed with the disease in their lifetimes.
