"I have utilized OSPT several times during the past year. Shan Teixeira possesses the latest skills in physical therapy. But, what sets his practice above others, is his ability to listen to the "problem" and his explanation of treatment options. Coupled with flexible hours for appointments and open communication with my physician, makes OSPT the very best in Central Maine."
-Peter Geiger, Executive VP, Geiger

"I have found that Shan Teixeira's technique in reducing my muscle spasms and tendonitis have helped me tremendously. He is a caring Physical Therapist who listens to my problems. I highly recommend Orthopedic & Spine Physical Therapy."
-Barbara Robitaille, Endoscopy Nurse

"At age 76, I finally decided to try some physical therapy for my lower back pain. Truthfully, with my history of arthritis and long standing back pain, I was skeptical how physical therapy could help. Amazingly, through stretches, exercise and moving my joints, Shan was able to get me moving again and I no longer experience the pain which had, at times, been completely debilitating. Were it not for his expertise, I am certain I would still be suffering from back pain today."
-Gerry Beaule, Retired Plumber

New Class 4 Laser Machine.
Laser therapy uses photobiomodulation to help stimulate tissue repair. This machine offers both 810 & 980 nm wavelengths and up to 30 watts power to effectively reach both superficial and deep tissues. Especially helpful for stubborn rotator cuff, Achilles, bursitis, lateral epicondylitis and plantar fasciitis.
I usually combine class 4 laser with shockwave (ECSWT), myofascial release (IASTM), stretching and or dry needling and have been seeing greats results.

Recently purchased an extracorporeal shock wave machine. It works with direct pulsed energy and stimulated the tissue like no other device I have seen. It was initially developed for breaking up kidney stones and researchers have found that it is effective for tendonopathies. It is great for biceps, Achilles, tennis elbow, rotator cuff and the most promising research to date has been on plantar fasciitis.

Now offering Dry Needling !!
Dry needling utilizes small monofilament needles to reduce myofascial pain or trigger points in muscles and fascia and promote tissue healing.
It is referred to as "dry" needling because we are not injecting anything into the tissue.
I am currently trained to offer Dry Needling to the head, neck, face, TMJ, shoulder, upper back, elbow, wrist and hand. And will be receiving further training soon to include lower back, hip etc...

How Dry Needling Works: Myofascial pain with associated trigger points are common and result in taut bands within the tissue. The hyperactive muscle spindle leads to localized tissue ischemia or hypoxia which results in pain and inflammation with an abnormal spinal reflex arc which stimulates motor neurons and leads to increased pain and increased muscle activity. This creates a vicious pain-spasm cycle like "a dog chasing its tail". Dry Needling works by interupting that viscious cyle, thereby reducing pain and releasing the muscle.
