Do you feel less energized than you used to? Crashing in the afternoon and not being able to bounce back?

If that's you (or you want to avoid that being you), there are a few things you can do to increase your energy πŸ‘‡

πŸ’ͺ🏼 Start working out more! While we may feel lower energy immediately after the workout, having a consistent workout routine actually leads to more mental and physical energy in the long-run.

πŸ₯¦ Focus on eating fiber, proteins, and healthy fat in every meal (especially your first meal of the day).

⚑️ Pay attention to your blood glucose and try to keep it as balanced as you can (I have a whole blog on this topic on my website for more info).

You'll notice that when you start to do these things, you'll have much more energy, focus, clarity and less brain fog. You'll also experience fewer physical issues, like gastrointestinal problems.

I searched for the secret to making self-care easier.

How could exercising regularly feel easier? What plan could motivate me every day without exception?

It never came.

How could I continue to eat well even when I was stressed, when a loved one was critically ill, or when I felt humiliated and shamed?

I couldn't find the plan.

How could I make setting boundaries for myself easier so I could avoid feeling so uncomfortable? People pleasing just seemed so much easier.

It got easier when I stopped looking for that non-existent magic bullet. Let's face it... it's just hard to get started on something so difficult.

Even a rocketship uses 85% of its energy just to get off the ground.

It’s not just you who finds it hard. It takes a lot of energy and courage to take those first steps but the next steps are way easier once you have momentum.

I teach this concept to my clients. The hardest part is getting started…

The second hardest part is building the habits to keep your momentum going.

Making self-care a priority is my sweet spot. That's why I"m still focused on it after more than 30 years. This helps me help my clients to achieve their goals. We all see great results.

HOW TO STOP OVEREATING πŸ‘‡

I know it can be hard to judge when you've had enough to eat, especially when you're used to mindless snacking, over indulging, or eating because of boredom. ⁠

BUT, lucky for us there are a few things we can do to stop before we eat too much.

πŸ₯¦ Don't eat in front of your TV or phone. Be mindful of your eating rather than trying to distract yourself while you eat.

πŸ“ Be aware of what your brain is telling you – it knows when you've had enough and it sends you those signals. Listen to them.

🌽 Eat slower so you give yourself the chance to listen to your brain's hunger cues.

πŸ‘ Chew your food 30-40 times before swallowing! This is one that so many people forget about. But this is what helps our brain know that we are eating, so it can tell us when we've had enough.

To take weight loss drugs... or not to take weight loss drugs? That is the question.

The new weight loss drugs on the market, like Ozempic or Wegovy were designed for those with diabetes or obese individuals with health complications.

My goal is not to say that making a decision to use a weight loss drug is wrong. I am not criticizing the decision as I trust that people research and make a decision that is best for them.

No matter what you decide it is important to know that drugs do not teach people how to deal with the stresses of life.

People use food to numb and distance themselves from feelings.

πŸ‘‰ Drugs will not treat the root cause of overeating or emotional eating.
πŸ‘‰ Drugs will not change the thoughts that have you turn to food to fix your life.

This is why coaching (thought work) is so important. You need to understand why you overeat. Thought work is freeing. It is the path to having the life you want. it helps you repair your relationship with yourself and stops you from thinking about the thoughts that make you feel so miserable.

This week a client shared how coaching is changing her brain. She is taking Ozempic and initially lost weight, but when her grandmother died, she regained the weight and some.

Her coworkers binged on junk food after a stressful day. The 'old' her would have done the same. Instead, she heard her brain say that ""Fritos aren't going to solve my stress"". She went home and didn't use food to numb herself. She is changing her brain. Through tears, she told me that this coaching is giving her the life she has always wanted.

She is the one who is controlling her weight loss - NOT a drug.

Remember, a pill can't change the thoughts that push us to overeat, but we can change our mindset and habits with the right support and effort.

Why don't you just stop overeating?

Why can't you stick with your workout routine?

Why can't you kick your phone addiction?

We all know that it is not easy to change or break habits, but regardless of the habit you wish to change, there is one thing that is true for all of them:

There is nothing wrong with you if you haven't been able to kick your bad habits yet.

Changing habits is HARD and you just haven't learned how to be in charge of your own brain.

Your brain is supposed to seek pleasure, avoid pain, and get results in the fastest and easiest way possible. This makes it really easy to overeat, skip the workout, or pick up your phone during a break and not put it down.

These days there is more information available to us than ever before, yet people are struggling with their health more than ever, so having more information is not the answer. It is knowing what information can help reframe these parts of your life.

A crucial mistake I see women make is not understanding the difference between movement and exercise.

Walking is a fantastic form of movement that yields wonderful health benefits, like better lymphatic circulation, improving insulin resistance, reducing risk of cardiovascular disease, risk of dementia, and improving mitochondrial function.

Walking is great, but it's also important to include a higher intensity exercise in order to slow down the aging process. Walking is not intense enough to create the same physiological responses that you get from activities such as high intensity interval training (HIIT).

For weight loss purposes, you want to focus on exercises, like HIIT, that are brief, purposeful, intense, and safe. If your weight loss has stalled, this may be the missing piece!

A HIIT workout burns a lot of calories in a short amount of time, and can raise your metabolic rate for hours after you are finished working out. The same can’t be said for walking.

As always, get cleared from your doctor before dramatically chaning your workout routine or adding high intensity exercises.

Having a strong and positive support system is one of the biggest factors in helping you reach your goals.

Whether it's when we're discouraged and need extra motivation, or to celebrate a big milestone with... someone there to support you can be vital to you succeeding and reaching your goal.

This is just one of the reasons why I love coaching so much – I get to help my clients every step of the way, and encourage them when they need it to remind them of their strength.

A Sunday well-spent brings a week of content! How are you spending your day today?

I like to spend Sunday setting myself up for success for the week.

One thing I do every single Sunday is get out my calendar and plan what days and times I'm going to workout (strength and cardio) in the upcoming week.

Then, I keep that appointment as if my life depends on it!

It’s so easy to blow off your commitment, but remember the only person who can make your health a priority is you.

It’s up to you to show up for yourself. And remember... it’s not any harder for you than it is for anybody else (even though it may feel that way).

Here's to Sunday, ladies, and planning a week of strength ahead! πŸ’ͺ🏼

Self-discipline is the backbone of all achievement.

The ability to stay focused and remain motivated can help us reach any goal, no matter how big or small. But even with all the knowledge in the world, it can be hard to stay self-disciplined!!

Most people think self-discipline is hard and requires a lot of willpower.

But self-discipline is actually freeing and once you stop resisting self-discipline, you'll find it much easier to do hard things in the moment.

We all struggle with self-discipline in one area or another, but we also have an area where we do have self-discipline. For example, you may not be able to make healthy food choices, but you show up every day for your children. Remember to give yourself credit!

The easy area for me has always been exercise, nutrition and mindset. How about you? What is easy for you and where do you struggle? Let me know in the comments!
