Our Story

We provide both mental health and substance abuse counseling services to residents of Mifflin and Juniata counties. Most of our counseling sessions are individual, but occasionally we form groups of interested people with similar interests and goals. We have an office in each of the aforementioned counties at convenient locations with easy access and parking. We utilize person centered and cognitive behavioral approaches to helping our clients work through difficult times in life, or to get back on the right track if they feel lost or powerless. We believe in a combination of physical, emotional, and spiritual practices to effect change in outlook and behavior. We start wherever the person is and work toward a better future. Dr. Fred Benner launched the practice in 2007 and it has enjoyed steady growth. Recently he has been joined by Jeff Birch who works with substance abuse clients, both adolescents and adults. We believe that some benefit from medication assisted treatment for addiction, and, depending on the person, we refer for methadone, buprenorphine, or vivitrol treatment. Our fundamental treatment is based on twelve step philosophy helping the person to draw on spiritual resources to change the lifestyle of dependence to one of freedom.
