In the world of sports, the pressure to perform can be overwhelming.

But prioritizing mental health is key to unlocking your full potential! Here are a few tips to help keep your mind in the game:

šŸ§˜ā€ā™€ļøPractice mindfulness: Take a moment to breathe and focus on the present. It can enhance your concentration and reduce anxiety.

šŸ’¬Talk it out: Open up to a coach, teammate, or therapist. Sharing your feelings can lighten the load and provide new perspectives.

šŸŽÆSet realistic goals: Focus on personal growth rather than just on winning. Celebrate small victories to boost your confidence!

šŸ›‘Take breaks: Remember, rest is part of the game. Give yourself permission to recharge both physically and mentally.

šŸ¤Stay connected: Build a support system with fellow athletes who understand the pressures you face.

Let’s break the stigma and prioritize mental health in sports!

Go-getter athletes – listen up!

Before you dive right into training, be sure to incorporate injury prevention measures to ensure you’ll always be on your A-game!

Here are three key tips to help prevent injuries:

šŸƒWarm-Ups: Always start with a dynamic warm-up to prepare your muscles and joints for activity.

šŸ‘ŸProper Gear: Proper gear provides support and shock absorption, enhances performance, and protects against environmental factors.

šŸ‹ļøCross-Train: Mix up your workouts to strengthen different muscle groups and avoid repetitive strain.

As always, remember to play the long game! You got this!

Recovery takes time, and every individual’s journey is unique. Sometimes it can take longer than expected, but that doesn’t mean you won’t get there!

In my field, I always see eager athletes wanting to jump back into their sports at full speed immediately after recovering from an injury. While I applaud the commitment, getting right back into your old routine doesn’t keep your future success in mind.

Proper return-to-sport requires guidance from a professional and a comprehensive protocol. Here’s what I recommend to my patients:

šŸ”µMedical clearance: Always start with a thorough evaluation from a healthcare professional to assess your readiness to return.

šŸ”µGradual progression: Follow a step-by-step approach, gradually increasing the intensity and duration of activities. Start with light exercises and slowly work your way up.

šŸ”µRehabilitation exercises: Focus on strengthening and flexibility exercises tailored to your injury to regain full function.

šŸ”µMonitor symptoms: Pay attention to any pain or discomfort during activities. If symptoms return, consult your healthcare provider.

šŸ”µMental readiness: Don’t underestimate the mental aspect of returning to play. Ensure you feel confident and ready to compete again.

Remember, rushing back can lead to re-injury. Take your time, listen to your body, and enjoy the journey back to the field!

I’ve been seeing a lot of patients with osteoporosis recently, so let’s talk about it!

Osteoporosis is a condition that weakens bones, making them fragile and more likely to break. It often develops silently over time, so it's important to be proactive about bone health!

As with any condition, the extent to which osteoporosis will affect you depends on how well you take care of yourself. Here are some effective ways to treat and manage osteoporosis:

šŸ”µDiet: incorporate calcium and vitamin D-rich foods like dairy, leafy greens, and fortified products.

šŸ”µExercise: engage in weight-bearing and strength-training exercises to build bone density.

šŸ”µMedication: consult your doctor about medications that can help strengthen bones.

šŸ”µLifestyle changes: Avoid smoking and limit alcohol consumption to support overall bone health.

SO many mamas-to-be experience this…

Lower back and pelvic pain – also known as SCIATICA.

Sciatic pain during pregnancy is often caused by the physical changes that naturally occur in the body. Here are some of those changes to be aware of:

šŸ¤°šŸ½Hormonal changes: During pregnancy, the body produces relaxin, a hormone that helps loosen ligaments in preparation for childbirth. This can lead to increased mobility in the pelvis, which may put pressure on the sciatic nerve.

šŸ¤°šŸ½Weight gain: As the pregnancy progresses, weight gain can put additional strain on the lower back and pelvis, potentially compressing the sciatic nerve.

šŸ¤°šŸ½Postural changes: The growing belly shifts the center of gravity, leading to changes in posture. This can result in muscle imbalances and tension in the lower back and hips, contributing to sciatic pain.

šŸ¤°šŸ½Pressure from the uterus: As the uterus expands, it can exert pressure on the sciatic nerve, especially if the baby is positioned in a way that compresses the nerve.

šŸ¤°šŸ½Muscle tension: Increased tension in the muscles of the lower back and pelvis can irritate the sciatic nerve, leading to pain that radiates down the leg.

If you're experiencing sciatic pain during pregnancy, it's important to consult with a healthcare professional so you can find some much-deserved relief!

Let’s talk about intermittent fasting…

⭐What is it?⭐
Intermittent fasting is an eating pattern that cycles between periods of fasting and eating.

Rather than focusing on WHAT to eat, it emphasizes WHEN to eat. Common methods include the 16/8 method (fasting for 16 hours and eating during an 8-hour window) and the 5:2 method (eating normally for 5 days and restricting calories for 2 days).

⭐Who is it ideal for?⭐
Intermittent fasting can be beneficial for those looking to manage their weight, improve metabolic health, or simplify their eating routine.

It’s particularly suited for individuals who prefer structured eating patterns and can handle longer periods without food.

However, it may not be suitable for everyone, especially those with certain health conditions or a history of eating disorders. Always consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new diet.

⭐Maintaining balance⭐
While intermittent fasting can offer numerous benefits, it’s essential to maintain balance. Focus on nourishing your body with whole, nutrient-dense foods during your eating windows. Listen to your body and ensure you’re meeting your nutritional needs.

Remember, the goal is to create a sustainable lifestyle that promotes overall health and well-being!

Anyone feel like your posture is slowly declining due to your office job?? This post is for YOU!

Sitting at a desk all day doesn’t have to mean sacrificing your posture! Here are some tips to keep your spine aligned and your body feeling great:

šŸ”·Adjust your chair: Ensure your chair supports your lower back and allows your feet to rest flat on the floor.

šŸ”·Screen height: Position your monitor at eye level to avoid straining your neck. Your screen should be about an arm's length away.

šŸ”·Take breaks: Stand up, stretch, and move around every hour. This helps relieve tension and keeps your muscles engaged.

šŸ”·Mind your position: Keep your shoulders relaxed, elbows close to your body, and wrists straight while typing.

Remember, good posture not only enhances your comfort but also boosts productivity! Let’s prioritize our health, even at our desks!

Should you drink water during training?? Here’s my take:

While some may say you shouldn’t drink water during training, staying hydrated is CRUCIAL for optimal performance. Here’s why you should keep that water bottle close:

šŸ’§Boosts performance: Proper hydration helps maintain energy levels and endurance, allowing you to push through those tough workouts.

šŸ’§Prevents cramping: Drinking water helps prevent muscle cramps and fatigue, keeping you comfortable and focused.

šŸ’§Supports recovery: Hydration aids in recovery by flushing out toxins and reducing soreness post-workout.

Today didn’t go as planned, but it turned into a beautiful opportunity!

I had to bring my daughter to work with me because she wasn’t feeling well enough to go to school. While my schedule as a doctor is usually packed, this unexpected time together has been a wonderful reminder of the joy in our everyday moments.

Seeing her curiosity as she observes my work and the way she lights up when I explain things to her fills my heart with pride. I’m grateful for the chance to show her what it means to be a hardworking woman, balancing my career while nurturing our bond.

These moments, though unplanned, are precious. They remind me that being a mom is one of my greatest roles, and I cherish every opportunity to inspire her.

Are you aware of this lesser-known concussion symptom??

A concussion is a type of traumatic brain injury that occurs when the brain is jolted inside the skull, often due to a fall or blow to the head.

Many people associate concussions with headaches or dizziness, but one lesser known symptom is ā˜€ļøsensitivity to light. ā˜€ļø

Light sensitivity can make bright environments uncomfortable and may even lead to visual disturbances.

If you or someone you know is experiencing light sensitivity or other concussion symptoms after a head injury, it’s crucial to seek the advice of a medical professional for proper evaluation and care.

A concussion evaluation typically involves a thorough assessment of a patient's medical history, a physical examination, and a series of cognitive tests to evaluate memory, attention, and problem-solving skills. It may also involve imaging tests, such as a CT scan or MRI, to rule out any serious brain injuries.

Here’s why back pain should NEVER be dismissed in cancer patients…

Back pain in cancer patients can be a critical indicator of METASTASIS (the spread of cancer from its original site to the spine or surrounding areas). This can lead to serious complications that hinder recovery and overall health.

If you think this is something that will always be caught without your help, you may want to think again…

One patient’s back pain was ignored while being treated for cancer at Mayo Clinic, resulting in an unnecessary procedure. Now she’s facing widespread metastasis with a life expectancy of only about one year with chemotherapy.

If you or someone you know is experiencing persistent back pain, especially with a cancer diagnosis, it’s essential to seek medical attention. Don’t hesitate to get a second opinion if your concerns are dismissed!! You are your best advocate for your health!

Parents of young athletes – you’ll want to hear this:

I know your kids may want to reach for sugary, caffeinated drinks as an after-school treat, but consider the importance of proper hydration for preventing injuries… šŸ‘‡šŸ‘‡šŸ‘‡

Studies show that even MILD dehydration (as little as 2% loss of body weight) can impair physical performance and increase the risk of injuries.

šŸ’¦Hydrated athletes experience better muscle function, coordination, and endurance, which are essential for reducing the likelihood of strains, sprains, and other injuries during physical activity.

šŸ’¦Staying adequately hydrated helps maintain optimal body temperature and joint lubrication, further supporting overall athletic performance and safety.

This season, help your young athletes stay on top of their game by keeping them hydrated with plenty of water and electrolytes!

🚩Shortness of breath
🚩Pain or discomfort in the arms, back, neck, jaw, or stomach
