An answer to a commonly asked question! ⤵️

If you’re experiencing lower back discomfort during Pilates, it’s completely manageable with a few adjustments. We will always cue adjustments and how to effectively prevent lower back discomfort, but sometimes it’s nice to read! Here’s how to make your practice more comfortable and effective:

1. Modify Exercises to Suit Your Body

If an exercise feels uncomfortable, it’s okay to make modifications!

✨In single-leg stretches, keep your head down if lifting it strains your back.

✨For leg lifts, bend your knees instead of keeping them straight to reduce pressure.

2. Engage Your Core

Activate your deep core muscles (transverse abdominis). Picture gently lifting two feathers up and off the carriage with your sitz bones for more stability and pelvic floor work. Make sure you’re not over-arching your lower back. Slightly tuck your pelvis into a neutral or posterior position.

3. Strengthen Your Core and Glutes

A strong core and glutes provide more support for your lower back. Strengthening these areas through Pilates will improve your posture and stability during Pilates.

4. Find the Right Pelvic Alignment

Your spine should maintain a natural curve in the lower back not too arched or flat. If you feel any strain, try gently tucking your pelvis into a posterior tilt to relieve pressure.

5. Be Mindful of Overarching During Extensions

When doing exercises that involve extending your back, be careful not to over-extend. Pay attention to your spine and avoid straining your lower back.

6. Improve Hip Flexibility

Tight hip flexors can pull on your lower back. To improve flexibility and reduce strain, try these stretches:

✨Hip flexor stretches
✨Psoas release exercises
✨Hamstring stretches

7. Breathe Deeply

Diaphragmatic breathing helps you engage your core more effectively, so focus on deep breathing rather than shallow chest breaths.

Pilates is all about finding what works for your body. If you’re feeling discomfort, don’t hesitate to communicate with your teacher! They can help adjust the exercises for you. With a little patience and practice, you’ll feel more supported and confident! Keep going you’ve got this! 💗

Creating a supportive, welcoming community and offering classes that are thoughtful, engaging, and challenging is something we pride ourselves on. At the same time, we love the basics and staying rooted in the principles of Pilates, always woven into every class.

January feels like a threshold, less about starting over and more about intentionally stepping into the year ahead.

Every year, I choose a word to guide me. For 2026, my word is PROSPER. ✨

To me, prosperity isn’t about doing more; it’s about doing what matters well. It’s about tending to what’s already growing, strengthening the foundation of what’s been built, and allowing expansion to happen in a way that feels honest, healthy, and sustainable.

And don’t get me wrong, there are still goals I’m working toward so the studio can continue to grow and thrive, but my intention is to pursue that growth in a sustainable, honest, and aligned way. That means thoughtfully training and bringing on exceptional teachers, mentoring and supporting them as they develop, and continuing to invest in and nurture the incredible team that’s already here, so we can all prosper together.

This season has me thinking less about pressure and more about care. Care for the studio. Care for the community inside it. Care for the people who show up every day: members, teachers, trainees, and care for myself as I continue to lead, learn, and evolve. Prosperity shows up when things are nurtured, not rushed.

Pilates Barre Lex continues to change, just as I do. The work looks different than it once did, but the heart behind it hasn’t shifted. If anything, it’s deepened. 🤍 I’m learning that growth doesn’t always arrive loudly. Sometimes it shows up quietly, in consistency, in trust, and in choosing longevity over burnout.

There will always be moments of uncertainty. The people-pleaser in me still whispers, “I’m not enough.” But this year, I’m choosing to believe it’s possible to grow and feel steady, to expand and stay true, and to prosper without losing the heart behind it all.

If you’re unsure about what’s next this year, remember: you don’t need it all figured out. Just keep showing up with intention. Just start. You don’t have to be perfect. Prosperity is a practice, not a finish line.

Here’s to a year of meaningful growth, steady progress, and becoming well in all the ways that matter. 🤍 Thank you for being here.

Wrapped up 2025 with my final two private sessions of the year, and my heart is truly so full. ✨ What a year it has been — filled with growth, challenges, wins (both big and small), and so many moments that reminded me why I love what I do.

To every familiar face who has shown up week after week, and to every new client who trusted us with their time, energy, and bodies this year, THANK YOU. Your commitment, encouragement, and belief in this space means more than I could ever put into words.

As a small business owner, I don’t take a single session, class, my team, members, or kind word for granted.
