Saint Joseph Medical Group – Cardiology recently welcomed Luke Robinson, PA-C, to its London team. Robinson said he was inspired to pursue medicine because it allows him to combine problem-solving with making a meaningful difference in people’s lives.

“Medicine offers a unique opportunity to directly impact others by improving their health and well-being, while continuously learning and growing in a challenging field,” said Luke. “I was drawn to cardiology because it offers the perfect blend of acute care, chronic disease management and opportunities for impactful interventions. The complexity of cardiovascular physiology and the ability to make rapid, lifesaving decisions have always appealed to me.”

Welcome to the team, Luke!

It’s not just Bridgette Jones’ words that give hope to her patients and their families at Saint Joseph Mount Sterling—it is her example. She was born with cerebral palsy, and has physical limitations that she works through everyday. As a speech therapist and supervisor of Rehabilitation Services, Bridgette inspires her pediatric patients and their families by sharing about her lifelong journey with her disability and the many challenges she has overcome through hard work, independence and hope.

Children don’t always want to do the hard work in therapy, she said, so she tells them she has to do hard work, too, to stay mobile and independent. “Our motto here is ‘We can do hard things.’ I always talk about that and relate that to myself. I focus on what each child can do, not what they can’t do yet. This sets the tone for confidence, which is crucial to their progress.”

Bridgette, who was named Saint Joseph Mount Sterling's 2024 Leader of the Year, has headed rehab services for 11 years and has been with Saint Joseph for nearly 16 years. She is proud of her experienced staff, saying they reflect Saint Joseph's values and the concept of humankindness. She says it makes their day when a little boy with a feeding tube takes a bite of food for the first time, or a mostly nonverbal child tells his mother, “Love you.”

“Those moments are big moments for us, for our parents, for our families,” she said.

While it’s important for men to receive regular health and wellness checkups to test for heart disease, cancers and other common risk factors, they must also check in on their mental health. An estimated one in 10 men experience depression or anxiety, but less than half seek treatment, according to a survey conducted by the National Center for Health Statistics. Your mental health is just as important as your physical health. If you’re experiencing any signs of mental illnesses, inform your primary care provider.

Regina Masters, DNP, experienced some of the toughest challenges in her 10-year tenure as director of nursing for Continuing Care Hospital last year. Despite the challenges, Regina says she was humbled and blessed to be recognized as the Continuing Care Hospital Leader of the Year award recipient in 2021.

“I always try to remember my purpose and what I’m here for,” Regina said. “I am here to support the staff caring for the patients, and that includes staffing, supplies and ensuring smooth processes. I also talk to the staff about our purpose. I try to remind them that we’re here for a purpose, to serve the patients and the community and to do the best we can.”

Doing the best she can do has taken Regina far in her 30-year nursing career. She became a nurse in 1988, following in her mother’s footsteps, and has served more than 20 years at CHI Saint Joseph Health - Saint Joseph East in various leadership roles. Nursing supervisor Chelsey Reams, RN, has a goal to make the best of a patient’s long-term stay at Continuing Care Hospital.

“When I come in, my 12-hour shift goes to the patients,” Chelsey said. “Many patients haven’t been able to have visitors or their family lives far away and aren’t able to come see them while they’re here for six weeks, so I try to do little things, like wear cheetah print scrubs on the weekends with matching masks or bedazzled headbands.“

Chelsey worked at Continuing Care Hospital for six years before becoming a travel nurse. While she enjoyed her role as a travel nurse, she returned to Continuing Care Hospital and moved into a new position last year – she says she felt called to return home.
