Tips for throwing a nesting party!!

1. Have a realistic checklist of all you want to accomplish

2. Make padsicles or prep meals

3. Provide lunch/dinner/snacks and drinks for friends and family that come to help as a way to thank them for their help!

4. Pick a day near the end of pregnancy, but not too close that the baby might come!

5. Wash baby clothes ahead of the party so they can be sorted, folded, and put away.

6. Decorate the birth space if she is planning a homebirth

If you have a pregnant friend and want to do something helpful, offer to organize a nesting party for them! It's so so awesome to start the new season of life with a clean and organized house.

Birth is not strange or scary to children unless we it make strange or scary.
It is magical and wonderful and most of all normal. Involving other children in the world of pregnancy and birth and breastfeeding gives them the gift of a normal perspective on the whole process.
After my youngest was born, my 3yo asked to see and touch the placenta. My midwife gave him a whole tour, and let him have a pair of gloves so he could touch it. It was so cool and educational too!

2. Prepare a candle wrapped with ribbon from each friend, to be lit when mama goes into labor

3. Make flower crowns

4. Write labor and birth affirmations to string up in the birth space

5. Ask each guest to bring a bead to add to mamas birthing bracelet

6. Help create an herbal blend for a healing postpartum bath

7. Fear release ceremony

8. Share positive birth stories

9. The "red thread" activity. Each woman wesra a red ribbon around her wrist or ankle to give her support to mama when she is in labor

10. Massage mama or rub her feet

11. Birthy coloring pages

12. Each guest brings a small item for mamas "nurture basket"

Having my older children present for the birth of their baby brother was so special and such a highlight of my homebirth. Not only does it give a feeling of family unity and help the boys understand the transition from pregnant mom to new baby, but it ALSO presents birth as a normal thing! They were not scared, stressed, or confused.
Birth is normal, and they have seen how natural, anatomical birth works, right in their living room.
Third pic is my oldest (3.5) and I wearing our birthing bracelets we made. (He also put on his spiderman costume when I told him he would be meeting the new baby today, because he wanted to show new baby his costume 🥰)

Throwback to finding out I was pregnant with my third!
I was at my moms house, over a week late, and I was pretty certain I was pregnant, so I had picked up a test on the way over. Even though I already thought I was pregnant, something about the confirmation of that little plus sign, combined with the thrilling secrecy of not wanting my mom in the other room to know yet, had me nearly jumping out of my seat.
Absolute excitement 😆 and so I took my phone out and took some pictures so I didn't feel so alone with all my emotions.
