Help us welcome August Tuggle, MM, MT-BC to the Wildwood team! We are excited for clients to benefit from her close attention to mental wellbeing and accessible music making!

August Tuggle has been a board-certified music therapist for over two years. Legally blind from birth, August highly values accessibility and facilitating opportunities for authentic self-expression in her clinical practice and research. She grew up in rural southern Indiana and received her undergraduate degree in voice performance and psychology from Indiana University. August recently completed a Master of Music in Music Therapy as well as a Graduate Certificate in Developmental Disabilities from University of Kentucky. During her graduate studies, she was a recipient of the Lyman T. Johnson Diversity Fellowship for two consecutive years. August has a strong passion for disability studies research and conducted a master’s thesis titled “Professional Experiences of Disabled Music Therapists: An Adapted Multiple Case Study.” As a music therapist, August has primarily worked in public schools and provided grant-funded group music therapy for visually impaired adults. Outside work, August enjoys listening to metal, reading horror novels, riding rollercoasters, and playing Sims!

Happy Belated Earth Day! Who else is ready to get outside this Summer?

Summer time at Wildwood is so much fun. We get to make music outside, visit all kinds of different camps, and meet people all over the broader Lexington area!

Music therapy for Summer camps is still focused on therapeutic goals, but we know that kids want a break from feeling like they are in school, so we make sure to crank up the fun meter! We also do music learning groups. Let us know if your summer camp needs a music unit! 🌞

You can also sign up for our Musical Summer Camp week in collaboration with The Bright Spot: 🎸Amped Up! Rock Band and Sound Science Lab & 🎨Melody Makers and Masterpieces: Ukulele, Songwriting and Arts Camp!

Spotlight on TR handbell choir! This brand new program was designed by our music therapist, Jen, in collaboration with the Therapeutic Recreation staff that we partner with.

Unlike instruments in the rock band or ukulele ensembles, these desk bells only require one hand to push one button, and participants are only assigned one note at a time. This made being in an ensemble accessible for new and different participants. While learning to play along with their favorite songs, participants practiced attention skills and built feelings of self-responsibility/ownership over their unique and important part in the group!

Congratulations to the TR Bell Choir for a great semester!

We had such a great time catching up with music therapists from across the Lexington area last weekend. Lots of awesome folks in the Music Therapists of Central Kentucky ! ☺️

Keep an eye out for our upcoming participation in the Walk to End Alzheimers!

The music therapy field is relatively small. To have a casual meet up with so many of us in Lexington working across multiple settings was a wonderful experience. Thank you, Nora, owner of Wildwood Music Therapy, for organizing this. My cup is filled, which means I can begin this week able to fill others’ cups.

We are really looking forward to this new program, Meaningful Melodies, a music therapy group for adults experiencing memory loss. This group is designed for adults whose difficulties with memory may impact their ability to socialize, no official diagnosis is required. One care person may attend per participant free of charge, and you do not have to commit to coming every time.

Connecting with others through music making does not require you to carry on a conversation, however, it certainly does have the potential to start some conversations when memories are triggered by music tied to your past experiences. We are looking forward to creating a fun and empowering space, and getting to know you and your loved ones.

$22 per class. Register at https://wildwoodmusictherapy.as.me/

Wildwood Music Therapy is proud to celebrate Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month and the "We’re Here: Then, Now, Always campaign."

"People with intellectual and developmental disabilities have always been here — part of the fabric of our nation — even when systems kept them out of sight and out of community life,” said Jill Jacobs, Executive Director of the National Association of Councils on Developmental Disabilities. “This month is not about awareness as a one-time event. It’s a reminder that people with IDD are always here, and that all of us have a responsibility to keep learning, engaging, and building communities where everyone belongs – every day of the year.”
