Mental Health Tip of the Week🧠
Feelings are signals not stop signs.

Everyone feels big emotions sometimes kids and adults alike. Stress, frustration, sadness, even anger they’re all normal. What matters most is how we handle those feelings.

🗣️ Try this:
Next time your child is upset, help them put words to it. You might say,
“It seems like you’re feeling really frustrated. Want to talk about it?”

When kids learn to name their emotions, they’re more likely to calm down and find better ways to cope. The same goes for adults pausing to check in with yourself helps you stay grounded and respond with more patience.

💡 Talking openly about feelings doesn’t make them worse it makes them easier to manage.

💬 Remember: Kids don’t need perfection. They just need connection.

You're doing more good than you think just by showing up.

Therapies That Help Families Heal 🌟

At KVC Kentucky, we use proven approaches that meet families where they are. Here’s how some of them can help:
• Changing unhelpful thoughts: Learn how thoughts, feelings and actions connect and practice new ways to handle challenges (CBT)
• Managing big emotions: Build skills to calm strong feelings, ease conflict and cope in healthier ways (DBT)
• Healing after trauma: Support for children, teens and families to move forward after difficult experiences (TF-CBT)
• Easing painful memories: Use guided techniques to make upsetting memories feel less overwhelming (EMDR)
• Finding motivation: Build on your own strengths to make positive changes (MI)
• Strengthening family bonds: Improve communication and connection between children and caregivers (CARE Skills)
• Creating safe and nurturing homes: Learn practical tools for healthy parenting (Nurturing Parenting Program)
• Healing as a system: Support both the individual and their environment so healing happens in daily life (TST)
• Addressing suicidal thoughts: A structured approach to keep people safe and build hope (CAMS)

💙 Every family deserves support and a path forward.

KVC KY at the KAWI Conference! 🌟

We had an incredible time at the KAWI Conference at the Central Bank Center! A huge thank you to Prevent Child Abuse Kentucky (PCAK) for having us and for organizing such a powerful event that brought together advocates, professionals and community leaders from across Kentucky. This conference was all about strengthening families, protecting children and building a brighter future and we are so proud to be part of that mission.

KVC KY had the privilege of connecting with so many amazing individuals and organizations, sharing how we’re working to improve the lives of children and families in Kentucky. It was inspiring to speak with everyone who stopped by our table and to hear about the collective efforts happening all around the state.

A special highlight: Derhonda Lee and Kate Grigsby had the honor of attending the Kids Are Worth It! Conference in Lexington, where Governor Andy Beshear took a moment to recognize Kate for her incredible work with KSTEP and for her role in the Laurel County Tornado Relief efforts back in May 2025. It was great to see Kate being acknowledged for her dedication, and we are so proud of the work KSTEP continues to do to support families across Kentucky.

It was also a joy to see so many of our wonderful staff from all corners of Kentucky. Thank you to everyone who took the time to visit, collaborate and continue the important conversations we need to make a difference.

We look forward to working together to strengthen families and continue building a brighter future for Kentucky’s children.
